1/2 synthetic oil is (as they say) 1/2 dino juice and 1/2 synthetic. The dino juice is the same old stuff, and degrades at the same old rate--causing the lubricity of the oil package to degrade more rapidly than 100% synthetic. |

Thanks for all your input, What is the difference between half and full synthetic oil? Are they freely interchangeable?

As long as you end up with a synthetic of the correct weight range, and change the oil at 3,000 mile intervals, I doubt that you can tell the difference* between mobil 1, Shell Helix, Amsoil, or any other quality synthetic. * difference in sound, wear, protection, engine life, ... |

I use Mobil 1 in my 348 and 308, and also when I had my 79 GTB. The TR will be converted to half-synthetic when I finish the engine break-in mileage, and then to Mobil 1 at 1500 miles (head retorque and valve adjust). I use Shell Helix full synthetic in all the gearboxes. I like to think of it as my support for the F1 team. I buy it at a truck service supply place for $140 for 5 gallons. I used to use Amzoil and/or Redline, but I can't see the benefit of them vs. my current selections. Valid, non-anecdotal evidence to the contrary will be willingly and open-mindedly reviewed... |

I use RedLine 10w50 in my 328, 348, TR and BB512i. I use RedLine 75w90 gear oil in the transaxles. I also always use premium gasoline. |
