Leaking oil senders are a fairly common problem, so John's probably identified your leak. If you can't figure out the leak, then some flourescent dye in the oil will help you spot it in a hurry. We just discussed using it a few days ago: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/192494.html?1042606401 |

Peter, I recently had the same problem. I would wipe it clean and drive a few miles and there it was again. I finally figured it out. In front of the filter housing (towards the carbs) there is a sending unit.(about 1 inch round) This is the oil pressure warning light sending unit. The oil was coming out between the electrical spade connector and the units' housing. It leaks out only under pressure. That is why you don't normally see it leaking. Try taking it off and putting some epoxy or JB weld to see if it stops. If it does then buy a replacement one before the glue breaks down. rivee |

Besides the filter there is the oil pressure sending unit and one or two blanked off ports on the filter mount stand. Valve cover gaskets are another possiblity. Any of these could be leaking or even the stand base gasket. Clean the area with a good de-greaser and the leak will probably become self evident. Maybe you will be lucky and find that it was just left over from a sloppy filter change. Mike '77 GT4 |

Do you have an actual leak or is it just remains from when the oil has been changed in the past. When the filter is removed oil can travel down that way. I always pack towels are the area well to keep this from happening but when I purchased my 308 it had the same layer of oil. |

I have oil residue on the top of the engine, between the carbs, in front of the oil filter. Are there common parts that leak on these engines? Thank you for all replies. Peter |
