Sam, It is too bad that the Ferrari owner lost it and got himself into such a mess. It seems though that the laws are made to protect the criminal. In this story there is one thing that stands out as justice and that is that guy will never key a Ferrari again. |

There is a very true famous story, now about ten years old of a owner of a very famous high-end NYC SOHO clothing boutique who had his ferrari parked outside his store in NYC. The owner had a license to carry a gun since he transported a lot of cash from the store. Well somone was walking by and, in the middle of the day on a crowded street, keyed his ferrari and the owner went outside and the two guys were yelling at each other from across the street. The ferrari owner got pissed at the simple vandalism (who wouldn't) and poited the gun at the suspect to (supossedly scare him off) the next thing that happened was he shot the the suspect dead with one shot between the eyes. People still marvel today at the amazingly lucky (unlucky?) shot. I think this wealthy owner is still in prison (20 years) and the story was real big news because of the Ferrari, the downfall of this wealthy successful guy with famous clientelle and the senseless murder made for sensational headlines. However, I am not sure if all that coverage was enough to scare people away from screwing with Ferrari's ( you'd think being shot dead would be a deterent) since my gets messed with plenty. Also the owner did not get much heroics for taking one for the team ( killing a ferrari vandal) not many came to his defense. So be careful with that bat since the other guy may have a gun or your first swing may be a lucky (unlucky) homerun hit! |

ANDREW, You really do have to take this all the way. Because if you don't it will happen again and next time it might be a lot worse. |

Dave has an excellent point. You might be able to get restitution through the criminal case. You should talk to the State's Attorney who has been assigned this case and tell him or her all about the damage to your car, and request that any sentence or plea bargain include an award of restitution to you. If that's available in your State you could make your point and recover your damages without the hassle of bringing your own lawsuit. |

I agree. I am currently in Utah. Recently some kids spray painted a new Mercedes in Salt Lake City. The parnets ended up having to pay for it. When it goes to trial, might try to get the judge to order the parnets to pay for it. Restritution might be cheaper than a lawsuit. If this happened often enough, I think incidents like this would decrease. |

Andrew - you should sue the little bastards. Also, most States have statutes that make the parents financially responsible for acts of vandalism done by their kids. That would help teach them a lesson and maybe keep them from doing it to someone else in the future. Just a suggestion. Glad to hear your car's back in the pink. |

Well, I got the seats out and removed all the egg from inside the car. The egging was actually a blessing in disquise. Since i had the seats out, I had the professionally cleaned for half the cost if they were in the car. They look great. I was notified by my neighbor that the assholes who did the eggine were caught. Two juevinals bought seven dz egs at a convience store a couple miles away. I think the police used the survalence tape to track down the kids. They will probably get comunity service. Thanks for your help |

Dan, You're right about DOWNTOWN Raleigh, but North Raleigh now is nothing but $500K-$1M neighborhoods with cow pastures in between. Just like Bret's town, North Raleigh (near RTP) is pretty sheltered. My wife & I enjoy the nice country drives and pretty much stay clear of any city life. If we do go to the 42nd Oyster Bar downtown, We'll use the Expedition. YeeeHaww!! |

My town is sheltered, wow the surrounding towns doesn't even begin to describe that. But you go like 40 minutes down the highway and you're in NYC. I had someone at school spit on my car and me and my friends threw the kid around for awhile, but other than a few stolen valve stem caps I haven't had any real problems. I do carry a baseball bat though with me in the trunk all the time. There are so many Aholes out there, wtf is there problem. I wish everyone could just carry a gun. The criminals have them anyway so the only people that would benefit would be the honest citizens. And, there would be a lot less crime because if you were a robber and everyone had a gun on them you would probably think twice about mugging someone. |

Randy, I grew up in and around Raliegh, NC. Don't be fooled, there are some mean sons of bitches in Raleigh. Sure, the old manners are exercised by the majority. However, if you listen to the local news you will see there is alot of vandalism and violent crime. My mother lives in Wendell which is 18 miles east of Raleigh. She carries a pistol in her purse and she doesn't drive a Ferrari. She drives a Honda. When is the last there was a car jacking in Raleigh? It seems that it wasn't too long ago. I feel safer in San Jose, CA then I ever did in Raleigh. Dan |

Ahhh, but the f---ing bleeding hearts of society, will let these criminals run free and you end up in jail. I'm not sure if this happened in the US or up here in Canada. A thief broke into an elderly man's home. Old man hit him with a baseball bat or golf club. He got jail time, the crook got off. This is sad. EYE FOR AN EYE IS WHAT I STRONGLY BELIEVE IN! Thankfully, no body recognises my GT4 as a Ferrari and it's left alone.... yet. |

We have the same type of Mayberry type of atmosphere in my small southern town, but times are changing with drugs and gangs starting to infiltrate even Smalltown USA. You have to keep your guard up because they will hit you when you least expect it and it sure sours your taste for humanity. I feel like Charles Bronson in "Death Wish." |

After I bought mine, I did a thorough cleaning and I found a 9mm live bullet wedged under the seat. I guess the previous owner felt that way... |

Maybe it's me and my "Jim-Bob" town, but I feel safe in Raleigh, NC. People around here still love watching re-runs of Magnum, P.I., open doors for ladies, and say, "Yes, Ma'am". I must be the only 308 in town and get alot of "Mayberry, RFD" smiles. |

I am armed and dangerous everywhere I go. A cop once told me " It is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. |

A San Jose, CA cop once asked me if I carried a gun when I drove the 348. I asked him; Why? He just said that if he had a Ferrari he would be packing whenever he was driving around town in it. At the time I thought that was a strange statement coming from a cop. After reading some of your comments here, I can see the rational behind the cop's comment. I haven't had any incidents yet. Maybe I'll stick a sign on the glass that says "Wait, I'm reloading!" After all, it is California. Dan |

Here in NYC there is occasional sprees of winshield and auto glass smashing... most have been traced to folks contected to a liberty glass franchise ( in Manhattan there is only one or two auto glass places and they will smash the glass of cars for which only they have the glass inventory. --this is true--not urban legend -- call it organized crime or entrenuerial push marketing! Hey, everyone gets pissed off but insurance pays anyway so people think it is a "victimless crime" as things go here in NYC |

I had 6 tires on customer cars cut Monday night on vehicles that were left outside by customers for the next day appointments. Just random vandalism. I did not file a Police report because it gets printed in our local news paper and makes it look like you were negligent instead of a victim. |

David, I'm afraid we are getting more of the common element in our society. They don't like the people who have because they have not. And more than likely they are too lazy to work for it. |

I have yet to have a major vandalism problem yet(knock on wood), but I have had four incidents of people hocking loogies on my car. Twice while I'm in it. What the hell is up with that? I think of myself as a friendly and respectful sort... |

Those punks will get theirs in the end. DAMNIT, I hate hearing about jealous little sh!theads that deface someones Ferrari. I find that inexcusable and should be punishable by DEATH. The egg will come out of the seats and carpets, I just hope you got it off the paint ASAP! |

Welcome to the down side of Ferrari ownership - in the first 3 weeks of ownership my 308 has had trash dumped in it, been keyed and had someone try to pry off the hood emblem (broken screwdiver tip still embedded in hood). You may want to consider professional cleaning, new carpets for these cars cost more than carpeting a house! |

You have to push really hard with the lock handle down, because the seat track may be not used in that position very much and may be difficult to freely move forward. |

Andrew, Leave the 2 front bolts in place. Push the seat as far forward as you can and remove the 2 rear ones. Then remove the front ones by pushing it backward all the way. It works better that way |

Please help. I just purchased my first ferrari, a 1984 308 GTSi about two weeks ago. It was egged with the targa top off. Eggs got under the seats. I need to know how to remove the seats. I can remove the front two bolts holding the rails to the floor. However i can not get to the rear two bolts holding the rails to the floor. I tried moving the seats all the way forward, but i still can not see the rear bolts. The rear of the seat seems to sit directly on the floor. The is absolutely no room tou put a wrench under there. I also tried removeing the front bolts that hold the rails to the seat. That did not help. Please help. I need to get the eggs out before they harden and start to smell:-( |
