Hi all.

Unfortunately we have no 308 speedo's. If it's any help there is an A1 company in London called Speedy Cables who I have used before who do a 101% job on speedos. I guess you have people there but thought I'd mention it anyway....! They are not associated with us in any way !

We do have however, the speedo pinion and the pulse generator in stock:

pinion....370.90.......about $599.75
generator...76.50.......about $123.70

George, that sucks. I have used PAS on three occaisions and each time was fine, though they are a bit slow. The most recent time was summer 2002, fixed my 328 clock and replaced the plastic face, about $100.

I used to have my experience w/ PA Speedo detailed in a date-by-date, item-by-item format, and when I find it I'll post it. But for now, let me just say that PA Speedo is highest on my list of companies to avoid like the plague. Here's a summary:

They severely underestimated the repair cost.

The repair, estimated at 1 week turn-around, took over three weeks (maybe over 4?). Harmut told me it was because the shipping paperwork "fell through the cracks". Sure.

When I got my speedo back, it was still broken (one digit wheel was half way in between two digits, and a gear was showing through the odo window). So basically, my "repaired" speedo fell apart in shipping. Great repair, guys.

They failed to pick up my speedo in a timely manner for re-repair.

The re-repair took another two weeks or so.

The re-shipping was also delayed - again.

They failed all the way around - in the original cost estimate, the repair, the shipping, the pick-up, and the re-shipping. The only thing they seemed to do right was the repair the second time around. But then that would never have been necessary if they'd been on the ball in the first place.

It'll be a cold day in hell before they get any more of my money. And like I said, when I find the detail, I'll post it. In the meantime, my recommendation to anyone in need of a speedo repair is to find any place else, but avoid them.

Vince, Sounds like a good source, I'd love to get an updated face, and get the speedo checked over.

Matt, I don't have a mark at 30, just the safety circle around 55 (and the big orange stripe). I think I've got a problem with the sender and the speedo. I've been watching it for a while, and I think it does too many weird things to be caused by just one of them.

Ron...The new face is 180mph face. They recalibrate it also, since the DOT original actually stops at 80mph. The cost was $135 plus shipping with a 3day turn around. They can fix any problem with any instrument, clock or guage.

Ron, the sending unit is on the transaxle you you would need to fix that. The speedo is a different problem. BTW, my speedo goes to 180 and has a red mark at 30, what's that for?

Since the name of this thread is 308 Speedo, I don't feel like I'm completely hijacking it...

Vince,
When you had it refaced, did they get rid of that awful orange stripe starting at 80 mph? The only time I can tell my speed is when I'm in a school zone. Also, my needle is intermittent. A lot of the time it seems like it's sticking, yet other times it seems like the drive unit signal is bad. If these guys can fix both (the face and the needle), I might send it out there. So, can they fix both?

Thx

Send it to Palo Alto Speedometer , www.paspeedo.com, (650) 323-0243.These guys are great. They Recalibrated and refaced my DOT speedometer in my 80 308GTBi and brought my clock back from the dead. Talk to Hartmut, he's the manager...

Hello all

The speedo on my 308 GTB displays the speed slower than actual. The drop gears have been reduced from 27/30 to 26/31 by the previous owner therefore i do not know whether or it was like this prior to the change of gears or not.
However as far as i know the speedo drive is on the output side of the G.Box, and the drop gears are on the input side therefore i would not have thought that this would cause the problem.
Does anyone know what could be the problem?
The history file shows a speedo head replacement within the last 2 years.
Any suggestion will be appreciated
