Jeff -

Thnx for the info and yes I can pull relay no problem. What about getting them back to the original closed position? Just keep turning same direction?

I think the disconnect is for saftey reasons also (CYA) and has nothing to do with the operation of the cycling of the motors...or so I hope.

Frank:

I don't know for sure, but I think the reason to disconnect the battery may be to avoid potential injury to your fingers/hands when working around the headlights. The headlight motor is very powerful, and if it should cycle while your fingers are down in there, you could be badly hurt!

On the 348 I always pull the relays operating the headlight motors if I am working around the headlights. That way I know they won't cycle other than by the knob, and I don't have to worry about disconnecting the battery.

I don't know for certain where the relays are on a 355, but it shouldn't be difficult to find out. Check your owners handbook or the workshop manual.

>>He also said no battery trickler, as it can cause a fire.... <<

can and will are 2 very different things !

Sounds like your 'guy' is likely a strong believer in "Human Spontaneous Combustion" also......tell him to stay far away from beans and other foods that can cause flamable gas...and to avoid walking near High Power Elec Transmissin Lines to avoid the gene altering invisible Electro Magnetic Field that emminates...hehehe.

Thanks Steve...

I remember the dealer recently telling me never to turn off the battery or if it goes dead to call them and tow the car in. (Oh Sure)

I know all about recycleing the obd2 for 10 minutes with everything off and all that...but this guy swears that shutting down the system can only be restored by them...blah blah blah...

He also said no battery trickler, as it can cause a fire....

No biggy...I'll just detail with the lights on, but I started thinking, what if I need to change the bulb, kill the battery and all that...

Frank -- If your 355 is like my TR you do need to disconnect the battery to use the manual knob and have the headlight bucket stay up. With the battery connected if you crank up the headlight bucket with the manual knob, the headlight bucket will go down automatically (powered) once you reach full up position (even with key off).

Might be a silly question, but I would rather ask first. I did a search and did not see this specific question mentioned.

I want to detail around my lights. Manual says to disconnect the battery before using the emergency knob? Is that really necessary?

Also - after I raise them, can I continue turning the knob until they recycle back to the closed position?

Many years ago I had a 914 and all you would have to do is turn the knob to raise, then continue to close.

I guess my concern is not to create any problems with the cycle mode of the motors....you know, if it works don't fix it...
