Adam, I know the design you speak of. If it's the same, all the loads go through threaded fasteners. Get an independent engineer to analyze this design, and you'll understand why I would not use that product. Plus, the shoulder belts have more material length to stretch in a forward shunt. This can result in driver to wheel contact or driver to windshield header.

Take a look at a Challenge car for ideas. Don't let your wallet determine how safe you design or use products.

Billybob, great info.

Dom...I am having a custom bar built that goes from b-post to b-post at the "D"Ring. The belts go over it not to it and then down to the floor. The company has been building them for P-cars, and is changing the length for the TR. The cost is cheap, about $150.

Marchall buck was a big advocate of this from the old days with FOC. Problem was in a crash they can flex and bend off the seat anchors and you have no upper harness. the your face hits the sterring wheel and you get to visit your dentist. The whole point of harness is to support you in crash. In crash if the harness supports are questionable what do you have? I would stay OEM before I did this unless there are additional points to support this bar. Supporting at two points on the shulder strap mounting points is wishful thinking. I really think you guys should just think about the dynamics of how you can move in a crash. If you use harnesses you really need the seats with the holes to support the harness. The std. shoulder harness could be better than a 5 point where the harness allows your body to slide in a side impact because there aer no holes to support the harness in the seat. I've seen guys use zipties to the headrests to control the harness straps. Works great until they crash! There is lots to consider. Be safe consult professionals. always rememberr there is little to no crash testing done with 99% of set-ups. The only data point you have is OEM and manufacturer recs on race gear designed to be used as a set like race seats with race harness.

Hi Peter,

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of one of these setups?

Thanks,
Dom

You can fabricate a tube that attaches to the seat belt shoulder mounts, this would stretch across the cabin and provide your top harness points (I've seen this done on a GT4).

However, it depends (and restricts) on how far back you move the seat. But it can be easily removed if need be...

Has anyone installed a 5 or 6 point harness in a 308 GT4? If so, how? Pictures?

In my Alfa, the harness was mounted to the stock seat belt points (shoulder harness to rear seat belt mounts- with eye bolt). This allowed use of the stock belts for normal driving, then the harness for track events.

It does not seem possible to do this safely in the GT4. So I'm wondering how it was done. Can it be done without installing a rollbar/cage (this is a road car)?

Thanks,
Dom
