Drew, I like your chunk of wood idea. On 360 Challenge we use either a piece of very hard wood or the UHMW plastic also used for skid plates. The plastic can be purchased from McMaster Carr. Do a search for McMaster and you'll come up with the old thread regarding skid plates, that will show specific part numbers. The stuff is cheap. |

Peter, that's a super good idea. That and a piece of wood like Drew suggested should solve my problem. Thanks. |

Dr. T: HERE IS THE FIX: I went to WalMart and purchased their 2ton jack. It was about $20. I took the wheels off of it (1 minute) and it workes excellent for getting under my 308 prior to placing the jackstands. |

Tommy, What I do is cut a small square piece of wood from a 2X4 that will just fit in the jack slot of the car. It has to be square to fit into the "round thing". I takes about 10 minutes to make one. I actually cut out 3 since I thought they would eventually crack. So far so good. I suppose you could have a hunk of steel machined to about a 1X1X1" square but this works fine for me. |

Where is the best place to put the lift? I don't want the round thing to goober-up my factory jack holder slot. |

Drew has it. The sears 2 1/2 ton floor jack fits a 308 just fine if you have stock ride height. If you are running smaller tires or if you lower the car all bets are off. Also sears sometimes has these on sale for $100-125. The $40 sears jack is only for initial lifting of the car. I would then use jack stands. |

Get some 2x12 boards, angle cut the edge and stack them 2-3 high. Drive up on them and any jack will now get under the car. Be sure the bottom board has a foot or so before the second one so your car won't push the whole thing forward. |

Russ, the Sears jack we are talking about is the 2 1/2 Ton one, not the 3 Ton Jack. The 2 1/2 ton has a minimum lift heigth of about 3" and works fine for a 308. |

At work we have a new aluminum jack (might be Griot's), I don't even think it weighs 37lbs, it's friggin great. They are a bit expensive, but so nice. You can just pick it up to move it across the shop instead of dragging it with those little metal wheels spinning at 10000rpms making noise. The hydraulics are so smooth too which is nice. At home I have a normal steel one that barely gets under the 308, it makes me sad. |

It is "similar" but there are a number of detail differences between this and the Griot's aluminum jack. I'm the first to complain about Griot's prices, but I have to admit that long after I've forgotten what I paid, they stand behind their products 100%. I own their ultra low profile jack (goes down to 1.75" without the saddle) and had a little mishap with it (my fault), and they happily repaired it at no charge. And every product of theirs that I have bought has exceeded my expectations. So, "cheapskate" that I am, I happily pay their prices... :-) |

Several members have the Harbor Freight Aluminum Racing Jack: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=47246 It's on sale for $179!! & shipping is free. Weighs 37.5 lbs & had 3.5" max height. Someone claimed it's the same as the Griots jack. If I were buying, that's what I'd get. These days, my old sears 2-1/2 ton jack (4" high) mostly gets in the way. I drive the 308 up on the ~2" long 2x12 blocks I made up to use with the jack to raise the it so my lift's arms fit under it. Just my $0.02 |

That Sears jack is about 6" minimum height. How does it fit under a 308 which I presume has the same ground clearance of 3.5 " as my 328 |

I have the same Sears jack in a hard case and it works great. I have the 2 1/4 TON which will fit under you 308. I believe the 3 Ton has too high of a minimum lift height. I think the 2 1/4 Ton will serve you well and the price and quality is very good. |

(Shrug) I just went to Sears and bought one of these. It works fine on my 308GTB. |

Hi, Have a couple hydraulic jacks i purchased from Sears. Fit under my Euro 308 fine. They came in a black hard case and cost about $40. Should work fine. Hope this helps. Enjoy The Drive, Steven R. Rochlin

We had that question before, so I'd recommend to search the archives. For my 308 I got one from Murray's for about $ 40. It fits underneath neatly and I use it to change wheels etc. Dunno though how high it would lift it for your purpose. Griot definitely has the right stuff, but a tad pricey |

I too have been looking for a floor jack with a minimum height of 3.5 inches. The odd thing is that such a jack is above $200 while others-5 inch minimum height- can be had for far less |

Can anyone recommend a hydraulic floor jack for a 308 that is short enough to go under it and will raise up enough to fit a small jackstand under it? I have been starting out with my factory car jack then following with the hydraulic one once it's up high enough to slide it under. |
