"The antenna switch is NOT factory"

Yes and no. The original OEM is the round paddle, but the parts spares ran out of them years ago. The parts channels have been supplying various replacements, none of which are cosmetically similar.

Both my GTB and GTSi now have the original switches.

Greg, FYI. I'm getting constant power and switched power from the fuseblock. Use a voltmeter, with one lead grounded and the other lead on each top fuse connector, and go down the line carefully checking each voltage... You'll find suitable leads for switched and constant power.

The antenna switch is NOT factory. It should match the others. Mine broke in my 78 308 GTS and I spent several months tracking down another original switch. They were made by Lucas, and used in a few other period British cars I'm told (don't know which). I paid around $160 to Dennis McCann after he found a new one in the original Lucas box. I wonder if Ferrari UK has any left?

Anyway, the reason you see so many 308's with generic toggle switches is the difficulty in finding original Lucas ones anymore.

Thanks for the info. Do you know specifically what you are getting the power from?

Hi Mike,

Here is a pic of the console:

Upload

As you will note, the antenna toggle does not match the other 3 switches. I have looked in a ton of 308's and more often than not, I see the antenna toggle like the one I have as opposed to the one with the round black knob on it. I am not sure if it is totally correct however it does a great job for what I need it for and does not look at all out of place (because that particular toggle has its own individual plate). With regards to its operation, the toggle always returns to the central position when released. Pulling it back gives one 'pulse' while forward gives the opposite 'pulse'. Therefore, the way I have it wired up, when I pull back I unlock and when I push forwards I lock. Getting a toggle like this is easy. Any Pep Boys, Auto Zone or Radio Shack will have these.

Thanks, Tazio!

Also, very interesting that you used your antenna switch. I'm very curious how you did this.

Most power door lock switches I've seen have a neutral position, and then a forward and a backward position. Moving forward/backward sends a "pulse" to the central door locking system to lock/unlock doors. There is some spring mechanism that naturally returns the switch to the middle.

1. My antenna switch is "loose"--it has no click "switch" feel to it, it just moves freely from front to back. Is yours the same, or do I need a new switch?

2. Did you use the actual antenna switch itself?

3. How did you wire the behavior of your antenna switch?
a) Deliver a pulse when moved forward or backward
b) Maintain constant "lock" when forward, and "unlock" when backwards,
c) Flipping the antenna switch toggles the state of the door locks?

Thanks for your help, Tazio!

Let me field all the questions here.

1. Tommy: The red rod retainers were there when I removed the door skin. I really do not know where to get one.

2. Mike: I am using my alarm ro remotly activate the locks. If you do not like that, here is a link to a good keyless remote system you can use:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3004307748&category=14934

3. Greg: I just probed around for a decent constant power cable. It was not necessary to go all the way to the fuse block.

What part did you connect it to for power? I was thinking about this for my 78' 308. I don't have an alarm on it. What would be the best place to connect it to the fuseblock? Thanks.

Tazio,
Thanks a lot for all the pics. I'll be ordering the locks soon and diving into my doors again.

Tazio,

Good stuff! Thanks for the post. I've got a quick question...

What are you using to remotely activate the locks? I like the idea of a keyless entry system. I'm not sure about the idea of an alarm system.

Do you have any good suggestions for a keyless-entry / remote door unlocking system?

Thanks Tazio,

Michele

Tazio,
Where did you get the red rod retainers for the lock ? Both of my doors have them broken and had to do a temporary fix.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Randal,

If you already have an alarm then this install will be simple for you. Here is the link to the kit I bought:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33696&item=2401066984

Do not be fooled by the price. It is only $25 but it is excellent quality and gives you everything you need. The seller offers top service and I am very pleased with what I bought. Now for the install. The following picture will show you how I placed the actuator:

Upload

As you can see, all I did was drill two holes for the actuators and no fancy brackets were required. The acutator is far away from the windows and is well protected on all sides.

Running the cables (there are 5 of them) from the door to the car can be tricky as there is very little room to move. I pulled hinge pins off of my doors and moved them aside with the help of someone while I ran the cables. This was by far the most time consuming part of the job. Not hard, just time consuming.

Now here is a pic of the actuator rod install:

Upload

The instructions are pretty straightforward with how to install the acutator rod and it is not exactly rocket science either. Now here is the cool part. The 5 cable actuators allow you to lock and unlock both doors by only operating one door plunger. It allows you to wire into your alarm for the keyless function, and in my case, I also wired into the antenna toggle on my centre console so that I can lock and unlock the doors from the console. Since my radio controls the up and down of the power antenna, I was able to make use of that unused toggle in the car.

I hope this was the info you were after.

I have a keyless entry alarm already, it's just there is no power locks.
Tazio-
Did you buy your parts online or locally? If online, do you have a link?

I am just in the process of finishing my power lock install on my 77 GTB. It is super easy and the actuators could not fit any more perfect. I'll post some pics later of the install. There is no need to install an alarm because there are plenty of keyless entry remote only kits available. The best part is that all the parts (including remote controls) should cost you about $60 (if you are savy about it). Watch this space.

Didn't Ed G. already do this himself awhile back? Seems like I remember him posting all the details, parts, photos, and step-by-step instructions on the procedure for his ex-308.

Randall. I looked into it and the shop said it was no problem. The only reason I did not do it was because I had to install an alarm with it and I really hate the flash of walking away from my car and hear it go "chirp, chirp"

QV's already have them, I would have thought your year does too. If it doesn't, I would expect the QV power locks will fit.

They way they work is that the drivers door lock actuates the passenger door lock.

Now that I've fixed my windows, I'd like to install power locks. Has anyone here ever added power locks to their 308? Thanks for the help.
