Plenum had to be unbolted and swung out of the way (after removing necessary hoses, but leaving many intact). Once the plenum was out of the way, the alternator came out easily. Regulator unit in the alternator was dead-on-arrival. Jim S. |

Right you are - I came to the same conclusion during the rush to get it out this afternoon. It was easier and safer to lean over the engine from the aft end. I think the plenum will have to come out unless someone has a trick up their sleeve. Thanks. Jim S. |

You should throw a blanket and lay on top of the motor...don't try to wiggle it out leaning over the fender. |

JRV - I fear that you are correct and that I will have to pull the intake plenum. I was hoping for magic or vasoline. Jim S. |

They come out with the body panel off...Hmmmmm...pull the mounting bracket or if it just for sure won't come out by twisting and wiggling pull the intake plenum. |

Started car today - red light on. Voltmeter reveals no voltage increase when RPMs rise. Voltage to field connector at connector alternator. Conclusion - alternator has to come out. I was rushed, but removed the pivot bolt and adjustment screw mechanism. Removed the cooling duct. Removed the cooling shroud. Can't get the sucker out. Removed the aluminum breather tube running between cam covers. Any suggestions? Of course, I have removed the body panel immediately behind rear window. Alternator is free, and I can move it around in the engine bay, but there is no place that appears to have sufficient clearance to get it out. Help! Everyone's input appreciated. Jim S. |
