I beleive the tranny pan is further back on on the car then oil - I know many have confused them - just surprise he would not have realized it when draining? |

Bob, sounds like you've dropped the wrong pan. I've removed the pan from numerous 308's and 328's and the tranny pan has nothing to hang on. Once it clears the studs, it's off. "Olio Cambio" is the gearbox pan. "Olio Motori" is the engine oil pan.

Bob -- You lost us. The 328 SPC on the Owner's Site shows the 328 gearbox pan as just a flat plate shape -- if you've lowered it an inch from the gearbox housing you should be able to see clear thru. Are you sure you've got the right pan? |

Yes, I am indeed referring to the transmission pan. It is hanging loose from the transmission by about an inch, but it feels as if something is keeping it from dropping any further. Any ideas? |

OOPs! If it's transmission pan, then sorry as I obviously miss-read your initial post. |

Is this the transmission pan or the engine oil pan? If it's the engine oil pan, you must remove temperature sender and dipstick tube to get pan off. Like Verell said, it must be turned just so. |

Have you removed the oil temp sensor, & also the dipstick & the dipstick guide tube that extends down into the sump? The sump baffels will hang up on them. If you've got them out, then rock the sump cover from side to side & jiggle it around. It's a very snug fit. You have to get just the exact alignment & tilt & it will come out.

I have done this, make sure that you don't let the spring and ball bearing drop and get lost. Easy job though. |

many time you need to pry them off - but don't use a metal srewdriver as you can damage the soft metal - I think people use small wooden wedges. do it slowly to break the seal. check the archives for info on gaskets and new nuts to keep the studs from weeping |

How do you remove the transmission pan on a '88 328 GTS? The pan is unbolted, but appears to be held up by something. Thanks. |
