One other cheap suggestion that will work is this. Get hold of some 75-ohm coax and strip back the outer sheath to a length of 29 inches. Pull the braiding away from the centre cable & twist the braiding so that it tightly bound. For safety reasons I would insulate the braid with PVC tape or heat shrink sleeve. Leave the insulation on the centre cable. What you have is a quarter wave dipole (for Band II) when you have it positioned like the Letter "T" - a bit like the aerials that they give you with the home hi-fi units. This could be placed up near the bulkhead with one end towards the left & one end towards the right. Obviously you would need the appropriate connector on the other end for the connection into the stereo. (I knew my Ham Radio days would come in handy sooner or latter!!!) Cheers Heath Robinson sorry - I meant Paul

The stereo in my 348 TT sucks. It's reception is pitiful. The PO told me the antenna was in one of the fenders. I took him at his word. So, it's behind the seats in the overhead? I was just going to buy an FM signal amp at radio shaq. Has anyone done this? Thanks |

David your right I mean amplified. I tried a regular one first and it did not get good reception so I went to the amplified version. |

Here's the deal on the 348 radio antenna: Early cars through somewhere in '92 the antenna is a conventional one piece like you'd see sticking out of a Chevy's fender, only it's burried in the headliner behind the dome light and runs transversely across from right to left. The cable runs from the radio housing, along the right sill, up the B pillar and into the headliner. Sometime in '92, Ferrari began installing the imbedded windshield antenna's, but I've seen enough evidence to make an argument that antenna design and installation location was at the whim of whoever was working the line that day. Many cars have been modified by now. |

I think Philip is right. It is my understanding that all 348's originally came from the factory with the antenna embedded in the front windshield. However, most all were later retrofitted with aftermarket units by the dealerships because of poor reception complaints. That is why you see several different mounting techniques (mounted on the top, rear fender, front fender, etc.) |

Charles, I think you mean "amplified"? Someone may mistake the "powered" antenna term for a "motorized one".... |

Radio Shack. Make sure to get a powered one for better reception. |

I found no trace of the Zender windscreen antenna in my car but I well found the cable as explained by Tom. As I don't want to drill a hole in my F, the powered whip antenna seems a good solution. Are there other valid solutions ? Charles, where did you find your whip antenna ?

I solved this problem in my car by using a powered whip antenna that I layed sideways inside the center console between the two seats. Works great! |

Thanks Paul. Very interesting. What's strange in my car is that there are 2 antenna leads ending near the fuse box (passenger site). Maybe there is one coming from the rear of the car as outlined by Tom and the other one coming from the Zender unit. I will check and let you know. Thanks again. |

Philip, On my 92TS it has a Zender windscreen antenna (hidden up near the rear-view mirror) and has an additional lead coming out from the sheath on the end of the antenna lead. I think from memory it is red (single cable) - This needs 12 volts to it to power up the amplifier. A dim red led should light up on the unit when there is power present. Most car audio systems have a switched 12 volts for the power antenna, this can be used for that purpose. The Spiders were fitted with this type of antenna from the factory. Need any more help, just shout! Paul

There wasn't a factory installed antenna but the antenna lead is there. The antenna end is located behind the interior light above the rear window. The factory antenna mounts on the roof. Some people who didn't like that had a power antenna installed on one of the rear corners of the car. What worked best for that was an antenna with a remote motor due to lack of room for a full size power antenna. |

Does anyone know where is located the factory installed radio antenna on a 92 F348 ts? I removed the original Blaupunkt radio and replaced it by a brand new Alpine but the reception is still bad. Any help would be appreciated. |
