Doody, I thought the same thing, and two of the Ferrari dealers I asked didn't know. Their response was that difference between empty and full on the markings is 0.6l, so they said better to be safe and fill till somewhere in the middle, not too close to the top. There's plenty of oil in it even when its at the bottom marking.

PS. I was told by the Ferrari dealers to just keep the engine running (once at temp) when checking the oil!

Agree about the burns, no one warned me about that, and it hurt!

Amir

the actual instructions for checking F355 oil levels are

Warm engine to 160 degrees, switch off, open engine cover, attempt to undo Oil tank cap, burn fingers, put on gloves, undo cap, check oil level, replace cap, shut engine cover, remove gloves, visit local hospital to have burns treated

LOL. yeah, that's probably the correct question to ask first :-)

it's more like "yeah, there's some oil in it" -vs- "eh, it might be low" :-)

doody.

Doody, I wonder if it's that accurate

here's a question i haven't been able to get a straight answer to:

the cap that the dipstick is attached to has a some amount of distance movement when you screw it down -vs- just placing it down. is the correct measurement with the cap fully screwed down or just at the top of the threads?

it doesn't really matter that much, but i'm just curious as to which way it was engineered.

doody.

The oil stick is in the oil reservoir (the dry sump). To properly check the oil, start the engine, allow the oil to reach 160 degrees on the gauge. Then stop the engine, get out, and read the oil level.

On the oil tank cap. Check oil level right after you turn the engine off at operating temp. It should show you in the owners manual.
