I don't have any cork gaskets on my '79 308 GTS but the caps seemed to be on there pretty well. I needed a light tap on the edge of the cap with a screwdriver to loosen them |

Update After changing my plugs which were sooty to see if this would solve my failing emmission situation I still have a minor miss which was un-noticeable until brought to my attention from the failed tests This left the caps: Light tapping on them had no effect, I removed my caps today by cutting along the cork gasket with a knife, the caps came right off, my caps have a lot of arc flash residue on the rotor and terminals which appears to be my problem |

Gerrit: Apparently, mine have been missing too (for quite some time). I can't find this gasket on Sodacoms... I wonder if all 328s had them? |

If the gaskit is left off it compress's the center tip further...compress it too much>??? I've always assumed it was to keep contaminants out and keep the cap from absorbing heat from the metal that would result in direct contact. |

Hi Mine never stick because there is no cork gasket! Is that a problem? I could see that this moves the cap in relation to the rotor. Wouldn't affect timing but what else might it affect? |

They use cork gaskits on their seats. After time they can stick to the compessed cork. Just break the bond to the cork and they'll come right off. |

The little hole is for venting heat that builds up under the cap. There should be three of them actually (at 120° intervals around the cap). I'm not sure about the two little screws, I've never heard or seen anything like that. They should really just fall off when you remove the three screws. A P.O. may have stuck them on with silicone or something else. Just be careful and GENTLY pry them off. A GENTLE tap of a rubber or plastic-faced hammer may help too. Be CAREFUL... |

I removed the rubber boots covering the caps and the 3 screws on my distributor for my 328 but the caps seem as if something is still holding them on, I see 2 small bolts in the center of the caps is this whats left or are they stuck? Any tips to remove them and not cause damage? Also their appears to be a very small hole on the top of them is this normal? Thanks in advance |
