well i unplugged the "k" connector last night, and try the signals - and sure enough they came on "without" the wipers coming on - guess that points to the fuse panel board, but im sure its not that because it's new - had the problem with the old board as well - still searching

Glen,
Check the fuse box and all connections. In most cases of this situation, it is caused by a cross connection or backfeed of the system through a poor connection in the fuse box. The fault could be one of the wire connections or the fuse board itself.

let me know,
Regards, Jim

Glen -- Can't say for sure that's what happened, but if you do dig into the wiring you should be able to identify the wires specifically associated with the wiper system (by color and where they are in the various connectors) so if any of the alarm system wires are connected to them you know something is not right. Good hunting...

so if im following you correctly - he mistakenly took the wire coming from the wiper switch and used "it" instead of the correct wire from the turn signal switch ..... which is why when i turn my right signal on the wipers come on ?

Glen -- Shoot me an email, and I'll send you some .jpg scans of the relevant schematics (you don't show an email address in your profile). Could be the installer just made a mistake as the wire going from the turn signal switch to the RH lamps is light blue (A) in color as is one of the control wires going from the wiper switch to the wiper timer/ECU.

Add an earth cable/wire from either stalk to a good ground point and see if it solves your problem.

Is there enough earthing? Both the wipers and signal switches are around the steering column. A poor earth(ground) may cause all kinds of weird reactions.

not sure if its the security system, i realize that the alarm is wired to flash my signals (when armed) but what the hell would that have to do with my wipers ? im lost....

noticed under the steering column there's a couple of wires that apparently have been spliced (again i believe for the alarm system) u think the short might be there ?

just checked to see if the right signal was glowin while wipers were on (neg)

what i did notice is that the right signal turned "on" is blinking twice as fast as the normal left.

as soon as i turn it on - wipers come on

Glen -- How about the other way around -- when the wipers are "on" do any of the right turn signal lamps glow?

had the problem since i bought the car (alarm system was already installed) wipers work fine when the turn signals are off. left turn signal (works fine - wipers off) when i switch to the rt signal (wipers turn on) wouldnt the wipers come on with left or right signals if wires were pinched ? im lost, dont know who installed the alarm system but (imo) it has something to do with it.

Glen -- You don't need a repair -- you need an exorcism! I checked the TR wiring diagram and these systems seem well-separated design-wise downstream of the power supply (although they do get power off adjacent fuses #23 and #24). Are you saying things worked OK with the alarm system installed and the problem only recently appeared, or did the problem coincide with the alarm install? Does the wiper system itself still work OK (when the turn signal is not in use)? Unfortunately, the TR wiper system does have a "black box" timer/ECU-thingy, but how or why it would react to what the turn signal switch output is doing -- ? Can you access the Wiper Timer/ECU to measure the voltages on its connector pins? Might be illuminating to see if an input line voltage changes depending if you've got the left or right turn signal selected -- let me know if you want to try this and I'll research the pin assignments. (But I like Ben's thought too -- check for pinched/damaged wiring in the steering column area first or maybe a foreign object under the steering wheel hub?)

Glen,

Could be in the steering column where those wires would run near each other. Then again it could be some faulty wiring in the fuse box. It is very hard to pinpoint electrical issues like this without a hands on approach.

I have a slight problem with my right turn signal, when i turn it on my wipers come on as well (the car does have an after market alarm system installed) can anyone suggest a starting point ???

Thanks for all your help
Glen
