I was able to remove the black trim by cutting the paint seal between the moulding and body with a razor knife then carefully lifting the moulding off while sliding a wide putty knife between the moulding and body. The two pieces came off with no problem , intact no bends... Now for the windshield! It cracked in a few millon places as you said! It was already broken that's the reason for the removal, plus a much better result when painting. So I saved the $900 moulding but will need a new windshield. Thanks for your help. I'll be back! |

Thanks Matt, I gave it a quick try last night by using my wife's cake iceing spreader thingy! It works! The only thing I'm concerned about is the 5 coats of primer and paint I have to cut through on the bottom edge around the cowl. I'll first run a razor blade across it to cut the paint seal then either use my wife's ex-kitchen tool or a razor blade. Thanks for your advice. |

If it is the original, then it is held in with sylicone. Pull the bottom rail off using a razor blade in the thick areas and then use the blade to lift the molding off. For the top part, start along the top using the same method from below and work your way to the sides. Do not pull from the bottom. Pull from the top. Replacement molding is $900 |

OK, maybe I won't do it myself. But let's say I do, how do I remove the thin black trim outside moulding that surrounds the windscreen? Does it come out with the windscreen or does it have to be removed first? If so, how? |

Lou, If it's the original, it's going to break. You can count on it. On the GTS, becareful of the window frame. Make sure they do not hit it from the INSIDE OUT or it will alter the frame and the top and doors will not seat. |

Lou, here is one of those times when having a professional do the job is a good idea. If they break the glass when removing or putting it in then they have to replace it with a new part. If you break it trying to save a few bucks, then it is your baby. If you are intent on removing the glass, it is held in place by automotive urethane (awful stuff to work with. To get at cutting this out, you will need to remove the interior A pillar trim, this is held in place with pop rivets that can be seen when you remove the seal around the door opening. Glass guys have special tools and tricks to do the job. A 308 is not a nice car to cut your teeth on. Lastly, If you are looking to pull the glass only to paint the car, there is no need at all. All you need to do is chip the urethane seal between the glass and the window pillars out, re-paint the car and then re-urethane the glass when the paint is dry. |

I've searched the archives and couldn't locate any info on the windshield removal on a GTS QV. The only info was the fact that Neil Green decided not to remove his during the repaint of his GTB. Has anyone removed one from a GTS? If so,what are the steps to be taken and what should I look out for? (Besides not breaking the glass!) |
