Ed, you missed out on the Tubi without mufflers. It does exactly what you want; no resonance at idle, more V-12 sound on hard throttle. Also, in my opinion, better quality than the other stuff.

Thank you men, for all your suggestions and input.
I nearly bought the Tubi rear mufflers but after hearing a couple I thought that they were a bit bogus. I wanted more volume with rev's but without that horrible booming at idle and slow speeds - the Tubi was definitely out - too Beverley Hills!
The Koenig with the 6 tail-pipes appealed but after seeing one in London I thought it was just 'Max Power'.
The Hamann has a good reputation but I didn't see one.
In the end I bought a pair of Sports rear mufflers from Quicksilver in London. They don't seem very well known but I am extremely pleased with them. They were in stock the quality and price were both excellent and, most importantly the sound is wonderful, quiet enough when I take it easy or want to listen to the radio and with a real howl when I put my foot down. I think it is just about right.
Thanks again.

I, too, have the CarGraphic (Fuchs) exhaust on my 550, but I still have the stock resonator/crossover tunnel. Nevertheless, Ben's description of Norm's exactly describes mine as well. Boo-yah!!

Norm- wow, thanks, I'm touched! Thanks for shareing your car with us yesterday, when you drove off and opened up through first gear, well I must confess, tears welled in my eyes too!

Best!
Ben.

Ben,
I wept at your description. Thanks, buddy. You're a real poet. I'll treat you to a hot chocolate at our next breakfast!
I'm a bit biased, obviously. I really like the sound of the Cargraphic. Ben gave a good description. Before I bought it, Maranelloman had written a good description of the sound in F-chat. The cargraphic distributor in town even had a money back guarantee so I had minimal risk in trying it out.
Edward, cargraphic being based in the UK, I expect it shouldn't be too difficult to find a dealer in London where you could listen to one.

After hearing Norm's exhaust yesterday, I have to agree, the Cargraphic is THE ONE for the 550!

Norm's car sounded great, presence was there at idle (but NO boom, unlike Tubi) and as he wound it out... Well, poetry has been written, women have wept, and men have conquered for that sound...

Very reminiscent of an earlier Daytona. I love it.

Best!
Ben.

Enjoy fellas - bear in mind the footage was filmed on the day of installation so the system has some way to go in terms of coking up and releasing the complete "note"!
I have more clips but owner wants to keep his reg. plate to himself.
Sorry about the visual quality but the sounds are still perfect.
ENJOY!

Thanks Manu; we have about 2 feet of snow on the ground here. While my cars haven't been garage queens, I'm not taking it out with all this crap on the road!! If you have a clip, can you please post it?
Isn't the sound wonderful? I thought I'd never get over my un-muffled 355s, but the 550 has aleviated my pain!! brad

EFWUN - My company in the UK equipped a Ferrari 550 with exactly the set up as yours just this Friday (the X-pipe manufacturer was different but otherwise it's the same!!).

I agree the car sounds SENSATIONAL!!!!!!
Conincidentally I read your posts on the FCA website too and I can email you video clips to help out the chap asking you for them!

The problem is the "stock" Tubi has heavy resonance periods. Believe it or not, changing to the "pipe-only" Tubi relieved ALL of the resonance, and let out a nice V-12 burble. (also very nice, mellow burbling on the over-run).
After removing the center tunnel muffler, the car sounds like a deeper, brassier 250SWB. Almost sounds like the 512S going through the Esses in the movie "LeMans", but not that loud. I love it, personally.

Have you considered a Cargraphic exhaust? I just got one recently on my 550, and it sounds great!!! You should keep in mind that tubi's (and any aftermarket exhaust for that matter) will sound different depending on the model. Tubi's sound great on a 355 but not so great on a 550. I researched a tubi, but to me it sounded a little too jarring and the resonance in the cockpit was too much. The cargraphic was much louder than stock with a deep throaty burble. I used to drive the 550 with my windows closed. Ever since I got the cargraphic, the windows are always open!!! Aural stimulation!! :-)

Edward:
I've done tremendous research on this, and here's where I wound up. I put on a "tubo-solo" Tubi from Franc at Tubistyle. This is a Tubi but without any silencers. The car was still too quiet, so I found a Stebro center tunnel replacement venturi tube (very important to maintain the crossover at the proper distance). Due to the length of the exhaust system, and the efficiency of the cats, the car now has what to my ear is a nearly perfect Ferrari V-12 raspy resonance. Probably a bit louder than my Dad's Daytona was, but certainly not as loud as my tubo-solo 355. Hope this helps.

Hi Edward, I agree with you in regards to the sounds of the new Ferrari's. It's the sound that has hooked me on these cars, and the reason I bought a 355, although in my opinion 355's sound awesome anyway, but mind blowing with a tubi.

Another friend had a 360, and added a tubi muffler. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! It was like having a new car, the 360 started to howl and scream and... oh you just have to hear it to believe and understand.

Another 355 owner who I know has recently moved to a 550, and is going the whole tubi decat way! The 550 (as the 456) sounds wonderful when it has an aftermarket exhaust system.

I've had my cats taken out and will be installing a tubi this month. Myself, and all those I know have dealt with Scuderia Systems, www.scuderiasystems.com, and we all agree their prices and service are brilliant. I can highly recomment them, and can say they are very accomodating. They can send you some sound files.

I note you are in the UK, and I know the guy with the 550 is having his bits installed to his car soon, so perhaps you can be present for the installation and hear it first hand?

Anyway, congratulations on the purchase, and I promise you the car will NOT sound tacky. Remember Ferrari even use tubi in their own cars.

I have recently treated myself to a 550 Marnello and I love it, apart from the sound. My father use to own a 275 GTB/2 and now there was a sound why cant all new Ferrari sound like that?

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can recreate that wonderful sound with my 550. I am worried if I buy an aftermarket system the car will sound tacky.
