Take this opportunity to sand the whole top smooth and paint it to match the car!

Results in my profile.

REPAINTING TARGA TOP
--------------------
I repainted my targa top & basket handle spoiler with black RustOleum Vinyl Paint (Home Depot). Alternatively, Autobody stores sell Vinyl 'dye' which is really a vinyl paint. Did this inside my garage. Garage had been closed up for a full day before so all the dust had settled out. Temp inside the garage was around 100 degrees.

I masked off the side rails the drip molding slips into, then skuffed the entire surface with green scotch brite. Wiped it down with a tack cloth, then gave it 2 coats of the vinyl paint. 15 or 20 min. flash-off between coats. Each coat was pretty wet & flowed out nicely. Had the top across a pair of saw horses which made it just about the right height for using a spray can.

Let it sit/bake in the closed up garage for a full day, & then back into use. Did the spoiler the same way a few days later.

Only down side is the vinyl paint was more glossy than the original finish. After 3 years, It's lost a bit of it's gloss, looks more original. Still looks new.

With something textured, sometimes the best way to deal with scratches is to work some new texture that incorporates parts of them.

THE SCRATCHES ARE JUST SURFACE SCRATCHES, ENOUGH TO JUST REMOVE THE "TEXTURE". DO YOU THINK THE SANDING WILL STILL WORK?? AND THEN WHAT DO I REPAINT WITH??
THANKS FOR THE RAPID RESPONSES TOO!!

matt

i thik it's a vinyl finish, difficult one to do if it is, you need to find some black filler if they're deep then use good old fashioned boot polish to finish

How deep are they? if they are too deep you will need to go to a body shop. If they are not too deep then try the following.

Wet sanding lightly with 300 or higher grit. Repainting might be necessary.
