FYI, if you want to increase the track of an earlier 348 without going to the expense of buying the different-offset wheels, and feel comfortable using spacers, you WILL need longer lugbolts. They are ~$70+ from Ferrari.

I just bought a set of H&R bolts for use on my 355 (I use Speedline Challenge rims for track use, and the wheels are slightly thicker, meaning that my standard lugbolts didn't have enough thread engaged). These chromed bolts can be ordered in different lengths, and should work just dandy on your 348 wheels. I'm pretty sure that H&R sells spacers for the 348 too.

I bought them from ECS tuning, FWIW, but any H&R dealer should be able to help.

vty,

Modified wheel is same size except that it is offset by an additional 25mm. basically like adding a spacer but it is built into the wheel.

FYI,
just to let you know, the rear suspension upper control arm mountings for the 348ts and tb were modified by the factory on all 348 starting with assembly # 8560 on the ts and #8606 on the tb.
the center point of the mounting was lowered by 20mm. this was done to improve the handling of the vehicle.(Ref. SB#60-24 rear suspension upper control arm)
If you wish to perform this modification, I suggest one of your dealer authorized shops that can perform the modification. they must have the proper jigs to weld the new mountings.
Note though you do not have to make this modification to install the newer modified wheels.

Justin, what you refer to is the rear suspension geometry modification first done on the Speciale. The factory lowered the location of the upper control arm inboard mount by approximately 25 mm. This change lowers the rear roll center of the suspension geometry, and the driver feels this as a more "progressive" roll sensation: it tends to "communicate" better with the driver, more forgiving. The roll couple distribution is unchanged, the track width is unchanged except as noted in previous posts for wheel offset in the rear.

This modification can be achieved by either replacing the entire sub frame with an updated frame (lots of time) or obtaining a jig to relocate the upper inboard mounts.

I do not have the exact specifications for the change.

Guys,

As I understand it, wide track met the rear suspension/track was modified and the 348's Spider, GTB and GTS carried these modifications. They were from 1993 onwards.
I did not think the size wheels were different (17") some cars carried 18" wheels like on the 348 race cars etc. The spiders have 17" wheels standard like the TS, GTS, TB, GTB & Spider.
Regards,
Justin
I have received this information for Ferrari UK.

Yes, that is absolutely what the factory did. You can get the 'spyder wheels' note however that you'll need new set of lug bolts ($600?).

I asked a mechanic at the dealer if the suspension was widened in the rear. He told me what Ferrari did was widen the inside of the rim, creating the widened track. Now if this is true, would it be possible to order the Speciale rear rim instead of buying spacers?

Craig,
Rob is correct, the wider rear track wheels were introduced on the 348 speciale series and also some of the 348 factory prepared challenge cars and then used for the 94 and on spider series only. A few of the last 348s prepared in 94 also had the new wheels installed. GTS and GTB designation only refers to the targa top or hard top style and has no bearing on the wheel track.

The wider rear track width as far as I know was introduced with the Speciale in '93, and then also the Spyder, but no other was "wide track".

I never saw a GTS, even in '94, the last year, with the wide rear track, and I was with the Dealer network then. I've been known to make mistakes though.

Craig,

Have you checked you Ferrari log book. There is sticker in it that will say 348 GTS. All 348's after 1992 had the wide track on them.

I know this has been covered & not to go over old ground but I was under the impression that all GTS models had the wider spaced wheels. Mine is a 1994 GTS and it does not ?

Any thoughts gentlemen?

ps(It is definitely a GTS, I checked)
