I already know that mind was from around the cap, there was no gasket, so I have installed an o-ring gasket. I haven't driven it since I installed the o-ring but I do feel this will fix the problem. I was just curious about the suspicious looking vent hole in the cap that I have. Jeff those last pictures pretty much tell the tale, thanks again. |

Terry - my Dino smells of gas after filling, and I have the correct gas cap. I suspect there is a vent/overflow tube that is leaking. Might check this first. If the problem were fumes exiting the cap, it would happen with full or empty tank. Try filling the tank and placing a dry rag wrapped around the filler cap. Make a few right hand turns, and see if the rag gets wet with gas. I doubt that fuel is exiting the cap through the vent hole you describe. I have to search for my gas-fume leak as well. Jim S. |

Jeff, thanks alot. After seeing the pick, I don't think mind is even the right one. Is there a vent hole anywhere on that cap that you can see? Will be e-mailing you. |

Terry, that is a beautiful GT. I looked for one for quite some time. I am still debating on trying to locate one, they have taken off in prices recently. |

Anyone out there with a 70 or 71 model 246, what does your gas cap look like? I seem to be hearing some conflicting stories. |

William, thanks. No need to send pictures, you pretty much answered my question. I thought that the vent hole looked suspicious and there was no gasket. |

i have a 1974 gts. the gas cap is a solid piece without any type of vent holes. the inside of the gas cap has a rubber piece that is solid and not an o-ring type or washer. if you would like i can take some pics of it and post them. |

Had my 246 out for a ride yesterday, great afternoon. On my way back I stopped and filled up with gas. I had noticed in the pass a slight smell of gas, but after filling up I really noticed it. When I got back to the house it was obvious the gas was coming from the gas cap. My question, is there suppose to be an o-ring on the inside of the cap? Also, there is a small vent hole in the top of the cap, is that suppose to be there. Thanks |
