Thanks, JRV. I am a less-than-average DIY'er (I can replace a relay or a fuse, but that's about my limit) so I guess I will have my mechanic take care of it next time I take it in. |

Sure it's a simple problem for the DIY'er to handle. Pull the center AC grill out, (carefully) look inside and to the right...you will see an aluminum plate painted black with the transistor mounted onn it...it's held in with small rivets that get drilled out fron the bottom...once the stand is loose from the AC Housing, find the harness underneath, carefully note wiring configuration, cut wires or remove from the plug, remove entire piece, instalation is reverse...plug in and you'll have all the fan speeds back. Make sure Transistor is remounted in cold air stream... |

I'm also wondering if this is something I can do myself. If you don't mind, where is it located? |

Is this something the average DIY'er can replace? What's the procedure? |

The Mondials have the exact same common problem. The transistor is about $150 approx. from Ferrari or one of the aftermarket suppliers. I should add that back in the days when Ferrari was getting $400 for this little goody I used to source them out at an electronics supply store for $30-$40 bucks. |

My '86 Mondial does this also-- max speed only. Superficially, the system looks similar. Would this likely be the case with the Mondial as well? |

99% of the time the problem you describe, Max speed only, is a bad transistor. |

Thanks Steve. Looks like I may have to live with this problem... |

Unfortunately Scott that's sort of "problem normal" for the TR blower system IMO: At the full speed setting -- the fan speed ECU closes a simple switch contact - which closes a relay - which directly runs the blower motor at full speed. At anything below full speed -- the fan speed ECU controls a power transistor (mounted in the center cabin vent outlet) which limits the current in the blower motor to something less than full speed. You've got a problem in either the AC power transistor, the AC fan speed ECU, or the variuos interconnections -- good luck... |

The A/C fan on my '90 Testarossa seems to be functioning improperly. When the A/C fan setting is set to any setting other than the maximum, it will blow very little to no air. When it set to the maximum, there is an extremely high blast of air. The thermostat works fine. Any thoughts? |
