My reference to the console is the piece that runs up the center of the car on the 'hump'that houses your accesory switches and shift gate etc.......on my car the grommet I speak of has power leads for the alarm and leads for the remote radar detector. It looks stock but I could be wrong. |

One other question. Anybody know of a good source of "switched," fused voltage? Some indicator of actual battery voltage behind a fuse, and that is only present with the ignition switch to RUN. My current naive solution is to draw from the fuel pump lead on the fuse box--after the fuse, there are two male spades and only one connector (fuel pump), so it's very simple. Did I read that there was was a dedicated spade terminal for this on the fusebox? If so, are there dedicated spade terminals for power on when the key is in the "ACCESSORY" position, or power on when the key is in the OFF position? Thanks again for your help... |

Picture of gauge setup. The right EGT gauge has been removed (was measuring exhaust temps in the cat), and has now been replaced with a VDO voltmeter.

Thanks, guys, for your responses--I really appreciate it. Mike, I like what you've got there--I envision my setup to be a bit different, though. I've got a flat metal panel installed underneath the AC vents that holds two 2 1/8" gauges very nicely (See pics.) It's an analog, lighted VDO gauge. I do like the digital gauges, but I was looking for something more permanent and visible at night. DJparks, I think you've got the answer that I'm looking for. I've removed the spare wheel, battery cover, and the aft half of the black fiberglass liner in the general area of the well. The brake fluid reservoir and some other components are now exposed. I also see how it feeds around the spare wheel well and to the battery... I'm still not clear on what you mean console--you're referring to the front part of the main, leather-covered center piece in the car? I've got it basically removed after pulling two screws on either side, and see a host of wires. I'll check tonight, but you're saying there's an opening above this? Thanks, man... Steve, good question about the ground. The gauge is lighted, and so has a ground for the bulb. The wiring information requires that the ground for the gauge light be different than the ground for volt measurement terminals, though of course we're talking about one ultimate ground here. (The schematics show the negative voltage terminal on the gauge wired to the negative battery terminal.) I found one convenient grounding point just above and to the left of the fusebox. Since I'll be running other leads from the battery in the future, I figured I'll just dive in now.

Mike P. -- If it's just a ground wire why do you have to connect it to the (-) battery post directly? Wouldn't any good physical/electrical connection to the chassis itself be sufficient? |

Follow the top of your console forward to the fire wall and there should be a grommet in the horizontal surface above the end of the console. Feed the wire up through the grommet. The wire can then be routed around the outboard side of the spare tire compartment liner and down to the battery. Note; the aft half of the liner needs to be removed to do this. It helps to remove the spare and Battery access panel beneath, (if you don't already know). Have fun. |

there should be a/c wires and hoses that run from the front area- in my mondial I ran some wires in the same firewall holes. look under the dash |

I know this doesn't answer your question, but for folks looking for a simpler solution to monitoring your battery, here's how I keep a voltmeter on my 308 -- on a doubler at the cigarette lighter, where my battery tender is also hooked up.

So, I'm trying to finish up installation of my nifty voltmeter. Trying to finish it up tonight... One more wire to connect. What is the cleanest/easiest way to get a wire from the battery area into the main cabin? I've been tearing my hair out. I've removed the panel that is the passenger's foot rest, but I still don't see any obvious points of entry. It's just a small 18 guage ground wire running direct from the battery. Any ideas?
