Problem solved, and Ric was right, after replacing the problem wire, the car was still bogging, it took 5 miles of driving with the Techron to clear the injectors. It is now good as new, and I thought fuel injector claener was for high mileage cars. Thank you guys. |

Try this guys. Beside the fuel distributor you will see a device that looks like an injector. Start the car. With the car running that injector should be buzzing. If it is not bussing then the fuel is not being regulated back to the tank. This injector is controled by a relay in right rear corner of the storage compartment behind the engine. Their is a 10 amp fuse in this relay visable from the top. Make sure the fuse is good. 9 times out of 10 the problem that you guys are discribing is caused by this. The relay is available from Porsche. Just give them the part number. |

Thanks Guys, I did drain the gas when I change the fuel pump. I found number one cylinder on the rear bank is not firing. I will replace the red spark plug wire and see. Thank you for all your help. |

HOW FRESH IS YOUR GAS? If you haven't drained & replaced the gas, I'd start there. After 2 years it's most likely broken down. I recently spent a couple of hours fighting with my lawn tractor w/similar symptoms. It just wouldn't run right. Then I realized that the gas had been in the container for 18+ months. Drained gas tank, put in fresh gas & all was back to normal! Unleaded gas just doesn't like to sit for more than a few months. Even with Sta-bil added. |

Charlie, I'm experiencing the same exact problem with my 328. I put a new Optima in, car starts fine, but I still get the bog and backfire when I rev the engine. Actually sounds more like a coughing or sputtering. The car idles ok, but responds roughly to the throttle. Bad gas, fuel injectors, fuel pump, or fuel filter? Hi John, hoe are you doing? Some winter, huh? |

If it starts up again, sound to me to be an old fashion fuel filter problem. I would assume that the 328s have one. When a fuel pump breaks down, sometimes the results clog up the filter?? |

Thank You Ric, for the information. I have replace the battery with Optima from Costco. I will try to clean the injector with the bottle they sell at parts stores. |

Timing is controlled entirely by the CPU. There is no form of mechanical advance. My first impulse is that the injectors need cleaning or your ignition system didn't quite survive the storage. |

I have a 88 328GTS, I just replaced the fuel pump after 2 years of storage, it starts and idles fine, but when I try to drive off, it will bog and backfire, when I let go of the gas, it will not maintain idle speed and dies. Does this car have a vaccum advance or is the timiing controlled by ECU? Thanks. |
