Update on the problem I had with the car..... Just got the car back. Turned out to be a bad condensor/points, per mechanic. He also adjusted the carbs and the car is now back to great running condition. Thanks to all for the posts.... |

Thanks all for the advice.... The green is an original color. It's British Racing Green, I think only euro cars had this color, no imports. About the ignition setup, I beleive it is one distributor with 2 coils, points and condensors. |

Check the condition of the plugs. How old are the wires and (particularly) the extenders? |

Does that apply only if one whole side of the engine isn't running? I had a bent electrode on one cylinder once and it didn't run smooth at all. What if two cylinders were not firing instead of one. Would that smooth things out? Just curious. |

No, it runs pefectly smooth, just 50% of the power. Mario, I love your car, is that the orginal color? If that was a GTB I would be all over it. |

If it were only firing 4 cylinders wouldn't it run rough as hell? |

If this is the same 308 as in your profile, I really like the "verde" color! Must be rare as well. |

Don't know if this is applicable or not but if the exhaust is plugged up (cat converters dicentigrated, but yours is a euro) it will idle fine but have no power. I had this happen on a vehicle once |

Mario -- A safer way to do Rob's suggested test is to hook a timing light onto each spark plug wire (sequentially) just to confirm that it's firing. A timing light would also let you check if the ignition advance is behaving quasi-OKish (i.e., it advances with RPM and it returns to a stable value at idle). Can you describe your '78 euro 308 ignition set-up a bit more: one or two distributors? one or two coils? electronic ignition or points/condensor? electronic or mechanical advance? etc. |

Probably just running on 4 cylinders. You can take the ignition wires out one by one and have someone fire it with the wires close to some metal. You can identify which cylinders aren't getting any spark. That would be first step and then we can give you more info to really narrow it down. Might be a bad coil or an oil leak within the rotor cap preventing one bank of cylinders from firing like what I had. |

Hi all, I have a few things going on... Here is how it all started. I noticed that my 78' 308 (euro) was idling at about 2000rpm. Drove it around a couple hundred miles and then the car lost all power at around 3500 rpm. The car starts fine and idles at about 1300 rpm until warm, then back up to 2000rpm. When I drive it I still don't get any power past 3500 rpm. What can this be? Carbs? Burnt out pins or condensers? Other??? Please let me know if anyone has had these problems before. Where can I get new pins/condensers without buying an entire unit if thats the case? Thanks!!! Once I get this problem fixed I'm looking to sell the car if anyone is interested. The car is in great condition but I can't afford it anymore since I've been out of work for 6 months.... Im an ex telecom employee and the job situation is not looking good... If interested please e-mail me at [email protected] . I can send you pictures. Mario
