Thanks for the info. JohnR: Used but never used? They were part of an uncompleted project. They had been installed on an engine that was never put in a car or run. So, one step below NOS. |

I would pull them apart, clean them, replace gaskits, Acc. Pump Diaphrams, Needles & Seats, Set Float Levels to spec and record all Jet sizes for future reference if it was me. |

If they've been sitting with fuel in them, they're gummed up somewhere, now's the time to rebuild, in the warm confines of your kitchen or basement, rather like Philip says: effort to install and synch, only to then realize you must rebuild. |

Erich If you know and respect the source and they know the history of the parts well, ask them. If not, then I'd rebuild them now. The various gaskets and seals are sold as a kit for $40 - 60 as far as I recall and it would be a lot easier and cheaper to do them off the car along with the float heights than once installed. You run the risk of a lot of effort to sync them only to find you can't make it run well/there's a smell of fuel or whatever and you've got a more elaborate job to rebuild them on the car. It can be done (most of mine were rebuilt on the car), but it is easier on the bench. |

I just got a set of used webers, which supposedly hadn't been used before; however, they smell like there's been gasoline in them. Should I rebuild them regardless or install them first and see how they work before deciding. I wasn't sure if I'm risking anything by installing them as-is on the engine. Thanks. |
