I have charged my battery several times... always leaving it in the car... always just connecting the charger directly to the connected battery terminals. Make sure you turn off the main power switch... that fully isolates the battery from the rest of the car. I leave both doors open during the charging process to make sure there is good air circulation... sometimes even turn on a fan in the garage, just to be sure. I usually use my battery charger set on the lower setting... though my mechanic recommended the 10A setting as just fine. However, I don't want to take any risks (I had a battery in a Celica explode once when I charged it too fast... messy in that case... disastrous when the battery is open to the interior.) HTH. |

You can do a couple of different things other than pulling the battery which is a pain. There is a battery connection under the shelf panel behind the drivers seat. I think there are 5 or 6 screws to remove to be able to lift the carpeted panel. The other thing is to access the wiring harness for the optional factory charger located next to the brake fluid reseviour. There is a red wire in the connector that goes to the battery through a fuse in one of the fuse blocks behind the drivers seat. This is an ideal place to rig up a connector for a Battery Tender. |

Eli, I don't know, but personaly I always pull the battery (which admitedly is a pain in the ass), and charge it away from the car......Two things to remember, to disconnect & reconnect the 'off gas' pipe on the battery (I presume it's the FIAM battery, so you'll see the pipe coming off the top), and when you reconnect, you need to switch the car on and leave it alone for 10 mins, so that the computer and throttle points can reset. Do you have to remove the battery inorder to charge up a dead battery or can you charge the battery with the terminals on. Can i just turn off the batter switch in the trunk and connect the battery charger directly to the battery without removing the battery? |
