Barry, looks like you and I were doing the same thing this weekend. I was removing both precats and cats on my 94 512TR. Try liberally soaking the nuts and bolts with a penetrating oil (WD-40)for at least 24hrs in advance. I first disconnected the oxygen sensor wires from where they attach to the boxes located near the air filters. The left wire also goes though a retainer at the transmission. I removed the retainer prior to removing exhaust. Just remember which wire plugs in to top and which below. Once removing the exhaust system, I also used WD-40 on the oxygen sensor and although on tightly they came free without a problem. I was not so fortunate with my thermocouples as one of the wires broke off from the probe when attempting to remove. I should not need them with test pipes, but would like to order a replacement now while still available in case I ever need to put cats back on. God knows how much that will cost. I disconnected the two pipes at the pre cats first and then disconnected the cats from the exhaust and removed the precats and cats while still connected to each other. If you have to cut the bolts it should be no big deal to replace as the bolt itself appears to be nothing special. Just keep the the spring tensioner which the bolt inserts into. Another thing to remember, if you loosen the bolts enough on the precats the bracket will rotate on the pipe allowing you to get better positioning with your wrenches or sockets. Also once you remove the lower mounted cat/precat (right side precat) you can get better access to the upper cat/precat. Once I got them out I separated the cat from the precat again using a lot of WD-40) I am planning on having replacements made for both the precats and cats. I took pictures of my removal, which I could try to email to you but quite frankly they won't really do you much good. Best of luck.

I'm trying to remove cats on my 512 TR, have removed fender and undertray, but all cat/exhaust bolts are rusty and very difficult to shift, also thermocouples came out easy, but oxy sensors very tight!!may have to cut some bolts to remove,is it easier to drop complete system by undoing manifold to exhaust coupling? any advice gratefully received, Bazzis, UK.

My install on a 360 Modena =2.5 hours for removing the OEM. I did not take off the rear bumper. 1.5 hours to install the Tubi. The allignment was perfect. I removed the air filter boxes and removed each rear wheel separately and the lower plastic wheel well cover to gain access to the bolts. 2 on the cats, 4 on the muffler and 8 on the tail pipes.

I'm amazed all you guys had such an easy job with the Tubi considering Ferraris are not exactly 'assembly line' cars. I take it the thing fits the way it's supposed to which would have been nice in my case. How can that be on cars that have so much hand building?

When I got my SS system for my Europa, even though it was specially made for the car there were a few modifications that had to be done for it to fit right. Every Europa is a little different and half the time the holes just didn't line up right. Took 9 hours including some minor welding.

I installed mine with no problems at all. Did it all myself except for little help to slide the bumper on and off. Took a leisurely 3 hours on my lift. I know Ernesto did it in his driveway !

Has anybody done a 360 without using the Ferrari mechanics? Any problems? Degree of difficulty. Thanks

Steve-thanks for the link, I have now made contact with a company over there, I am considering the options at the moment, it appears I get a few hundred bucks savings but the issue is warranty. Think I will be going back to plan A and doing it here..

Feelnotbad- the issue I have is on the 348GTC the mods apparently done to deliver the additional 20BHP are through exhaust system changes (???), they generate so much heat the shields on the manifold have broken loose (the cats have fully disintigrated also) I had the manifolds repaired last year at a cost of 800 but they are rattling like hell again. According to Manu the only answer it to replace the manifolds, I lose the crappy heatshields and away we go.

Thats the plan anyway

Thanks

Gordo -- here's a link provided by one of the Tubi dealers in the Bay Area:

http://www.modena-motors.com/tubi_style_exhaust_product_list%20BX.htm

doesn't seem to specifically list 348 manifolds but has similar items.

Gordo, Do you really mean manifolds? In general we just swap the silencer and the pipes not the manifold. I bought mine via Suderia Systems in UK (ask for Manu Sachdeva at 01 784 43 43 94/95).
They have excellent prices (I have no links with Scuderia...usual disclaimer).

On the subject of Tubi exhausts I wonder if any of you could help me. I own a 348GTC and was on the verge of purchasing tubi manifolds and testpipes here in the UK. I have been quoted 2400 (I guess roughly $3600) unfitted by a UK based dealer.

Question 1: Is there anyone that could tell me if there are any Tubi dealers in the San Fran area?

And Question 2: Anyone have any idea what the cost would be if purchased there?

I am in SF next week and thought just maybe I could get them there if cheaper (which I somehow suspect they will be) and bring them back to the UK with me...

I suspect the manifolds/testpipes will be the same as the 348GTs (I know I should check first) and having read the output here it sounds reasonable I could fit it myself

All help and advice greatfully received

I finally decided to do it myself with the help of my son. We never tackled such a job before. It took us 2,5 hours for dismounting the silencer and the cats. It went well with the help of some WD40. One more hour was needed to mount the two test pipes and the Tubi. Now, ladies and gentlemen, I am totally mad. The sound is just GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rear box change to 1.5 hrs and the removal of
the cats took half hour. This was on my 348 spider.

Tubis fit beautifully, but if your 348 is as similar to my 355s as I think, there is extensive removal of parts necessary. The rear bumper has to come off, and with it, the inner fender shields. Replacing these parts is kind of a two-man job, if for no other reason than getting them properly aligned. Long Island charged me 3 hours on my first 355, and that seems about right.

About 2 hours on my 308. They are designed to be a bolt in. Eyeball the job and ask why so long. Midas will do it too, or you can do it yourself. It is not difficult.

I have been quoted 4-5 hours to get my new TUBI installed on my 348. Correct or not?
