I know you are talking FW but the clutch can be an ornament too. Aslo make sure the PO did not use the wrong strengh bolts. never trust anything on a used car.

The most critical part of the FW mounting is the studs! Ric...I bet the guy with the extra dash ornament was missing the studs. many bad mechanics either let them fall out and not replace them or jsut bolt the clutch to the FW without them not understanding their importance. DON'T FORGET THE STUDS.

Also, clean the threads (and holes) and use a little blue loctite (two drops per bolt). I know of at least one case where a GT/4 flywheel ended up embedded in the dash, having missed the driver's head by about 6 inches...
