I have the same problem, one Ferrari mech. told me not to worry. But a guy who works on BMW and VW which have the same fuel injection systems as ours. 1980 308. Since mine does it only when it's cold, he told me to replace acouple of items. I forgot what they are called, but both are over by the cold start fuel injector. I would say though if it is doing it when the car is warm you need to lean it out a bid. It's a 7mm screew between the fuel injector hoses and the air box. It's down between them and kinda hard to see.

OK you are right, it is going to worry the hell out of me. I have read some past forums about oil around the rear and tail lights and should have figured this was a common problem. But when its your baby.........you know what I mean..so do you think I need to make any adjustments or just leave it alone?

Probably a little rich on the mixture. Now that you have seen it, it is going to worry the hell out of you. Just don't ride behind it anymore and it will be OK.

Was it white or black smoke?

Ok everyone I have a new one to pick your brain for. Today my wife drove the 308 down the road I followed in another vehicle to get a glance of seeing my car cruising and listening to the sweet sound it makes. I noticed when she went to take off a slight puff of smoke came out the exhaust pipes, also when she shifted and when she stood on it. Nothing major and no constant smoking just puffs as said. Also when I crank it up cold it spurts some black dots on the concrete behind the cars exhaust, which I was told was normal from moisture in the pipes. Is this normal for the car to smoke like this? is it too rich? or burning oil? or all the above? It is A 82 308gtbi with 62k....any help?....
