My 1982 BB512i has an Ansa muffler and the "Ansa" logo is embossed on the bottom of the muffler. But, I don't think mine is stock.

Ok, I looked all over this stock 84 muffler and don't see any tags that say ANSA anywhere. The only 2 tags I see are on the flanks (L&R Resonators) and they simply say Ferrari w/a part #.

I can't see the entire center mufflers perfectly till I pull the exhaust for the 30K service, but if tags are there, they're well hidden.

Henry,

Asking a Ferrari owner in California if they have cats is like asking a woman her age....You just don't do it.

James: Does your BBi have cats? I would assume you have to, since you live in CA.

Sure - I only suggest Bill G. at Enzo Motors because he was able to locate one for me. I'm sure there are others that can accomplish the same.

James, could I cut out Enzo and call D. Fritz direct? He pulled a few off if I recall.

JRV - I was able to find a slightly used complete muffler system with resonators (Bill at Enzo found it for me). Was located on east coast. They are stainless, and thus not prone to disappear with the fog of age. My system looks like new. It was one of those taken off during the conversion process (around 1983). I have already mentioned the price to DaveE. Call Bill at Enzo, he might be able to find another system.

Randolf, I thinks it's coming back to me now...(it's hell to get old and forget muffler info) there are some manu tags that say ANSA. I think what threw me was pulling from memory and the HUGE quality difference between ANSA's earlier products and the radical quality difference of their later stuff.

Henryk, oh you are absolutely right, funny thing is though, Ansa was selling Daytona & earlier exhausts for many years (they had to cause the crap rusted out so often) outside the Ferrari network, until Ferrari got into a pissing contest with them a few years back (6-8?)over who owned the jigs, no mufflers for quite a few yrs., then finally some reso;ution a few yrs. ago...but I've never seen (not that I looked hard) BB mufflers listed in their catalogs. But the good news is the BB mufflers aren't the cheap crap the earlier cars had, so really there hasn't been a large need for NOS.

I'll check the one at the shop tommorow and see if it has some manu tags on it.

JRV: Re "Next logical question...." It would appear to me that Ferrari made an agreement with it's suppliers, NOT to sell outright to the public, but only to them.......so they can then charge ridiculous prices!!!!!!!!!!!

For example: Can one buy ATE (Ferrari) calipers from ATE? It seems that the original parts, except for generic items, still have to be gotten from Ferari.

Where did you see the Ansa label? I have a BBi in now with an original muffler on it, I'll look to see if it has the same tag.

Henryk, good qeustion...from the looks of them I'd say they didn't. The origs don't look anything like what Ansa made for Ferrari on the earlier cars like the Daytona, 330GTC's, etc., etc., etc.. From the looks of them they look German made, judging by build design and construction quality...who made the Porsche stuff Loetz? Leibrietz? something like that?

Next logical question along that line of reasoning...I have never seen or heard of supplies of new ones from any euro manufacturer or supplier.

For a car like the BBi, did Ferrari make their own exhaust, or did some company do it for them?

DaveE: Look into a Tubi exhaust and headers.....this is what I have on my BBi.

I don't know of any stock muffler systems laying around. To be honest I don't know where they all went. Many went back on the cars after they became legal, but a certian amount of cars still have cats or AM mufflers on them, so where those went I really can't say.

It's hard to guess on price also.

"Euro'84 Boxer "

ALL Boxers were euro/gray market...in fact many dealers refused to service them back in the days of dealer vs graymarket wars.

Once the cars were imported thru the gray market channels they "had to be" converted to US specs (yes there were some cars with Forged tests and Docs that never were converted) , which among other things required fitting a Cat. Convv., lots of cars were changed after the paperwork issues were complete to aftermarket mufflers and the cats removed.

Personally I can't think of any reason a Borla is not as good as other mufflers. I've know Alex Borla for many years and the products I've used (no boxer mufflers)always looked decent to me.

I Bought a stock Euro'84 Boxer with a Borla Exaust and would
like to know if this is a popular setup or not a good system.I have been told the stock system
is the best for good high and low end power.I
think i will probably start looking for a stock
setup.Any thoughts would be helpful.
