Aha, I found them. Not exactly out in the open. I had to get a mirror on a stick thingy to see the control valve. So, now all is good in gt4 land here. I just have to get a new bracket to install the charcoal filter and plug in the lines, and I should be set.

Thanks for your help.

Dom

(Sorry for the multiple posts, but...)

I find it surprising that the carbon would necessitate a carb rebuild as the orifices for the fuel vapours are BELOW the carbs...

And as Bruno and Dave H. mentioned, I installed a small fuel filter along the line between the canister and the carbs:

(Its a Fram, but I'm thinking I'll change it to a Baldwin in the future... )

Dom, the vapour separator is located above the passenger's side gas tank.

The three-way valve is mounted underneath the flat sheet-metal, behind the rear, passenger's side shock absorber (sorry, I don't have a photo of the location).

OK, I just had a look at my parts manual. The liquid vapor separator is on Table 48, and is labeled figure 22. The corresponding part number is 107606 and is labelled Disaeratore.

Does someone have a photo of these parts in situ?

Thanks,
Dom

Bruno is right, I had the same thing happen to my 78 308, charcoal cannister broke up and the fine charcoal powder fouled my carbs are required a rebuild. I would put some sort of one way check valve or filter on the line to prevent that. I just had my mechanic remove the whole mess.

Philip -- the 308 B/S fuel vapor control system is shown under:
Fuel/Air/Mixture/Ign./Exh.
Fuel Pumps & Pipes ('75-'77) or Emission Control System ('77-'80)

Jeff
I am also looking for a new cannister for my 77 308 GTB and that looks like the part (certainly the same manufacter - AR).

I am unable to find it going through the owners site despite trying all the logical model nums (308 GTB/GTS 1975 - 1977; 1977 - 1980; USA and Japan options where listed). There is no listing for emissions (I assume it is in the 27 pages of "other"?).
Yours confused,
Philip

I had one break up inside and spray little particles of charcoal throughout the system. I plugged the lines and said heck with it. Car runs fine.

Thanks everyone.

I do have the charcoal canister, and I had seen the older threads. I was just wondering if anyone had a photo of where these bits were mounted (i.e. the 3 way valve and the liquid vapor separator).

Jeff: The vapor filter you posted looks different (much larger) than the liquid vapor separator listed in the workshop manual. I'll check my parts manual to see if I can come up with a parts number.

Thanks,
Dom

Hi all.

Have had a look at this one...Have found part number 113031 on the Owners' Site. It calls it a filter and is listed under Emission Control, US & Japan.

Have a look at these anyway - we DO have stock, 22.90, ....about $36.00 Upload

Dom, it helps to safely vent the gas tanks into the induction system, to prevent the vapours from simply collecting in the engine compartment. Chances of explosion from those vapours are slim, but it seems even with emissions junk, 308 passengers take on a scent of "eau d'essense" or gasoline cologne, so its best to fix it.

The liquid-vapour separator I'd imagine would be next to impossible to find. Ask Jeff @ Ferrari UK. If he don't have it, no one will.

The three-way valve was made by Borg Warner. I tried looking for one at an auto-parts store, but none had it (and some didn't even know what it was!). Considering most of the emissions parts were domestic-made, try them (namely GM) - its a long-shot. Again, ask Jeff... BTW, I tested mine (by blowing into it with my mouth) and it worked, so I put it back in.

The carbon canister is available and reasonably priced. I got mine from my local dealer.

Dom: There was quite an extensive discussion about this a while back. Search the archives. There was info on what was needed to hook it all back up.

I just got all this stuff for my car from the original owner. He still had it! I'm not sure if I will be putting it back on, however.

Dom, I can't help you with the charcol cannister hook-ups but I found that the more I learn, the more I realise what I don't know. For me that is the fun of it though it can be pretty frustrating at times.
Past experience has shown that some people feel that the more emissions equipment is unhooked the more power the car will have and the better it will run. I have also been told that when the equipment is unhooked a retune is in order to correct for the absence of scorned equipment.

The charcoal canister on my 75 GT4 is currently disconnected, since the little plastic piece holding it on was broken. After examining my engine compartment and the workshop manual, it appears that I may be missing my liquid vapor separator, and the 3-way control valve that attaches to this.

Is there any reason why I would want this stuff disconnected?

Any of you GT4 owners have this stuff? Can you provide a photo of where it all goes? It is a little unclear from the diagram which line the liquid vapor separator plugs into.

The more I learn about this car, the more questions I have. As more of my questions get answered, maybe I will actually know something...

Thanks,
Dom
