I believe it was part no 56-1350, and the airhorns will fit inside the filter. I got them from a website I think it was K&NFilters.com or some such, for about $50 each. |

Russ Gould, Which 3 1/4" oval filter? K&N has 3 different ones for the 40DCNF carb. Please read my posts below. Which one fits the 308? I would really like to try a set out. |

Guys, the 3 1/4" oval units fits and clears the bonnet. You can mount your trumpets inside them with the pillars from the rubber gaskets on the stock unit. My airbox, needs repair for rust near the throat, is for sale for half the price of a replacement, [email protected]. I think I get better breathing, not sure about HP, sure looks and sounds GREAT! |

Pete Thanks - I saw the 90 degree note on the filter listing. Pretty interesting. If it is what I think it is, that type of filter mount is not uncommon on sidedraft DCOEs, but never seen it on a downdraft. Would have to see to better understand measurements. best rt |

Well, they also have a 4.5"x7" that is only 1.25" tall and a 5.5"x9" that is 2" tall and that is turned 90 degrees to the base of carburetor flange. |

Pete - not decided, but may get a stock airbox with a K&N to allow cool air ram. I understand these airboxes are not so common to locate. The Weber dcnf specific K&N filters look like they could be used with air horns, but bonnet clearence may be an issue (similar pictured below). Anyone out there run these? best, Russ

Hey Russ, what K&N filters did you get? I looked up their website (http://www.knfilters.com/default.htm) and they have 5 different ones for the 40DCNF. 3 of them are 3.25" tall. A 4.5"x7", a 5.5"x9" and a 5.5"x9" that has the oval filter assembly turned 90 degrees to the base of carburetor flange (4 stud base) |

I bought a set or Sumitomo Tires from Tirerack.com in 205/70/14. they are great tires for the price. I got them on a Friday and mounted them then went to the track on saturday. I ran 50 psi (they are rated at 51 psi) and they did great. especially for a 70 series 14" tire. Shipping and all they cost me $48 a tire. Check them out here. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?startIndex=0&width=205%2F&ratio=70&diameter=14&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&do=Search&manufacturer=Sumitomo |

Jerry, Just picked it up from FerrariPartsExchange's site: http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/308Rubber.htm They have rubber for quite a few F* models. Just don't show the door weatherstripping(sigh). |

Russ try the ITG filters, i've used them on my Boxer for years. The velocity stacks can be used inside the filter. |

Matt With the Alfa (1750, twin 40DCOE, ram stacks with mesh) I never had a problem on the street. I did most daily driving with some K-Mart (pre-Walmart and pre K&N) elastic fine weave baby socks ($2) over the trumpets . With the Ferrari I plan for the airbox/K&N as I think the warm airflow patterns in the engine compartment are not as good as the cool air ram from the side. Had looked at combining the two, but not really worth the fabrication effort. But, absolutly nothing looks as or sounds as impressive than a brace of webers with ram stacks. See any vintage Ferrari book. Best to all Russ |

Russ, Are you not worried about junk getting into the carb? Seems like the mesh would allow pretty much every thing in the carbs |

Am looking for a carb airbox soon as well - where have you looked? I have found a cold air induction box, but may be too tall. See: http://www.twminduction.com/airbox.htm The cold air intake piece is important (colder air, more O2 molecules) - if not, would have considered running just meshed air horns with baby socks (did this on a set of 40DCOEs on an Alfa years ago - great breathing and what a sound ). best to all Russ

Russ, Are you sure on the part number for those tires. I did a search and cannot find a tire made by Toyo with that part number. YO A321 sounds like a Yokohama tire. It is a fantastic tire for the 14" rim but has not been available for a couple of years now. |

You will lose hp without the airbox hooked up to the side vent hose. However as far as looks I've seen the set up. It is cool. U should post a pic. |

Ever tried to replace an air box on a carb car, the most expensive piece of sheet metal in autodom? They can rust through as they tend to ingest moisture. Save yourself a heart attack, buy the K&N "custom" individual units, I think the 3.5 inch high units are the ones, they look great (showcase all those Webers!), fit perfectly and allow you to tune your carbs with the units in place. You can get them online for about $200 the set of 4 (twice that price at your local stockist). You will also need a K&N crank breather filter, to fit the breather pipe, about $20. Tip: save the little pillars from inside the rubber gaskets in the original air box, you will need those as spacers for the trumpets which sit inside the K&N filters. Now tires. Toyo makes a 205/70VR14 number YO A321, part no 07VR4321 from Tire Rack, South Bend IN 800 428 8355. $85 each, replace the whole set for the price of one Michelin (lousy tires anyway). I have not run these Toyos on the track so can't tell you how they perform but my wallet sure feels great. Any more new generics out there? (above what is already posted at www.ferrarichat.com/partsandservice/308PartsXref/index.htm ?) |
