I did something similar and it works great:

I installed a cigarette lighter socket behind my front license plate -- mounted to the license plate bracket. It is wired directly to the battery and has a 15 Amp fuse in line with the positive lead.

I made up a power cord with a cigarette lighter plug for my battery tender charger. Now I just pull in the garage, plug in the charger cord behind the license plate, dust the car off, and put the cover on the car.

I have never needed it but the emergency light could be plugged into the front socket (which by the way was bought at a marine supply store and has a spring loaded gasketed cover to keep debris out).

Kind Regards,

Chris

Sounds like a good idea Steve, I'll try and find one of these plugs today in the local do-it-yourself.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Richard I have a 77 GTB and live in the northeast U.S. Although I do not drive in the winter here is a little trick I use . Here we can buy plug that is used on snow plow hook ups. You attach this to the battery and you can either run it to the grill or mount it on a bracket under the front bonnet. The receptacle can be attached to a battery charger or jumpers. So just plug it in and start it up. Cost about $30 and 2 hours to install.

try www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/21/187019.html

And I'm afraid the only way to jump start it is indeed to take out the spare tire and remove the battery cover.

I've just got a 1977 308 and want to keep the battery topped up during our long cold and salty Swiss winter. What's the best way to connect to it? Is it over the cigar lighter or is there a better way. Also if necessary, how do you jump start a 308? The battery just ain't reachable.

As a complete newcomer to Ferraris, this chat site is great. Exactly what I need. Thanks to y'all.........
