Rob,

Correction. I started my car for the first time in the cold since FOW tightened the belts and it does NOT make the sound anymore. This is the first time since I've owned the car in two years that it doesnt make the sound in the cold so the problem was probably benign anyway. Mine sounded exactly as you described.

Rob,

My car makes this sound too. FOW tightened all belts and listened to the sound. They said they hear this on all 328s- a high pitched whine in cold weather on start up- and said it was normal.

My 82 GTSi sometimes sounds just like a turbine jet engine at idle...

After starting your car the alternator is working at it's maximum to recharge the partially discharged battery from the starting process and after charging the amperage is reduced and the noise is less. This is a good posibility of your noise. You will also notice the same noise if you have your headlights on or any other high current accessory on.

My accessory belt used to make snapping and popping sounds until I sprayed some stuff on it.

Especially when cold, my engine has a whine that sounds like a belt or something. It's almost like a whistle. After a few minutes and warm it goes away. Anyone else experience this?
