I thought the SD1 was not compatible with OBDII cars.
I stand corrected.

Actually the SD1 is used on the 355's but besides that you can check & clear codes with a generic code reader.

Unfortunately, you need an SD2 tool to read/reset the trouble code on your OBDII system. Available at any Ferrari dealer $$$$$$$$$

When mine came on it ended up being a catalytic converter disintegrating. Not uncommon on these cars. It happened right after I filled it up, and hope as I might that it was the filler cap, I got shocked with a bad cat. Did I mention this happened about 70 miles from when I purchased the car? On the ride home? Major bummer.

I would clear the code and see if it sets again.

I checked the gas cap, it's tight. The gas was very low when the light came on. I filled the tank but the damn light is still on.

On the OBD II cars (yours) you cannot clear the MIL Memory by disconnecting the battery.

Many guys are reporting MIL's (Malfunction Indicator Lights) because of a loose gas cap or gas cap seal/sealing problem. If your gas cap is loose or seal broken it will trigger the MIL. If that's the case, and problem rectified, the MIL will go off on it's own after 3 20 minute use cycles with no malfunction detected.

While driving my '99 355 yesterday the check engine light came on. The car has about 17,000 miles. On one of the threads, somebody suggested disconnecting the battery to clear the computer memory. Can I just use the battery disconect to do this or do I actually need to physically take the POS lead off? Then, what kind of issues do I need to address after restarting the car (codes etc.)?

Thanks for the help.

Bob
