I have a '77 308GTB, and was searching for the older push-in door jamb switches as well. I couldn't find any anywhere. Even checked AutoZone, NAPA, etc. The only ones available now are the teardrop-shaped ones which require a screw to secure them. The plunger one these new ones didn't stick out as far as my older push-in type ones, so I ended up cleaning the contacts as Barry mentioned in the earlier post and reinstalled..... |

To get to my switches, it's really best to take of the doorsill/doorjamb cover... Two screws holding in a black metal plate. Mine are the "push in" kind, I had most luck getting them out with a gentle inward pressure on the two "clips" on either side of the switch, while pushing forward through the hole. When you reinstall them, put the doorjamb cover on FIRST, with the female spade connector hanging out THROUGH the hole. Connect the switch to the connector, then push in. I broke two of my switches (part of the rivet structure that holds the male spade connector on) before I learned that lesson... Too much force pulling on the male spade connectors will break these easily.

Jerry, Having the same problem here. When you say "press fit", does that specifically mean that the piece simply pulls out (with some effort) as i see no screws that hold it in OR do i need to remove some panel to then access the rear of the switch to then refurbish it. My switch only has a pin surrounded by a round metal housing (no visible screws). Alas, seems my 1985 308GTS QV Euro has the same problems as others :-( Just want to be careful as i try to remove the part to recondition it. many thanks. ALL help is ALWAYS appreciated. Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin

I had a similar problem with my three switches functioning intermittently. I just cleaned them up a bit and used an eraser on that part of the metal cylinder that contacts the door jamb to remove any oxide coating and they have been working fine since. It looks as though these switches can be reconditioned if there is any minor breakage. What happened to Ferrari of Los Gatos? Barry |

Ferrari of Los Gatos was a false alarm. They told me they had them and I posted that info, then when they arrived, I realized that they were the teardrop/screw-in type (as opposed to the press fit like we need.) I have exhausted every resource that I know of to try to find them because mine are gone. |

Barry, Thanks for the thread reference--my archive search missed that one! So, they were found at Ferrari of Los Gatos--somehow I don't think they're in a position to help out, but it might be worth a call (do they even exist?). I won't pay $30 for a pin switch! I've got three of them; they just need a little reconditioning, that's all.

Anybody know of a good source for new old stock door pin switches for a 78 308? I had the door panels off the other day, and found that two out of three of my pin switches broke--the little washer that holds the metal spade lead to the rivet structure on the switch has broken. Alternatively, there must be an aftermarket, autozone/pepboys/$2 switch that fits OK in the holes? As I recall, hole diameter is approx 1/2in (though is metric, I'm sure), pin-switch length is one inch, pin-switch displacement open-door to closed-door is, maybe 2/3"?
