Adam The last harness I put in (which was a long time ago) I installed the shoulder harness eye bolts while the engine was out during a major because it was easier to access the firewall area. Just an idea. I have some pictures somewhere..... |

You can access the outboard belt mounts. It's the exact same thread as a forged eye bolt from any harness supplier, lucky us. Then use a clip-in on the lap belt. As for adapter brackets, this is dependent upon your manufacturers mounts. You may or may not need to weld or simply fabricate by cutting and drilling an adapter. I have done this many times in various Ferrari's and various seats. Just remember, your life depends on the integrity of your mounts. I've seen scary home made brackets, aluminum bent in a vise with sharp corners (stress risers), galvanized hardware store crap, ugh. Plot the Sparco mounts on paper, then measure your car with sliders installed but no seat. Careful measuring will save time. Note the relative positions, move the holes around to get the best fit. Sometimes the holes will line up perfect as in the OMP Challenge seat with Ferrari supplied brackets, they fit the sliders perfectly even though that was not the intent. If you're using flat steel stock, mild steel (1020) is fine, you want at least 1/8 inch thick. If you're welding, remember the weld affects the way the bracket will fail in a shunt. |

Guy's; I am getting my TR back in a few weeks from it's major, and it time to install the Sparco Evo2 seats and harness. I am pulling the old seats out and mounting with sliders the new seats. If the holes do not line up should I weld the slider to a metal sheet with the right holes. Is the floor pan thick enough. What about mounting of the belts since only the inboard belts are exposed, where the outboards are behind a panel. Any thoughts? William I know you have done this before...anyone else. |
