There will be play in the gears (0.2mm backlash, 0.3mm max, per WSM) and it will make a noise. If you are in spec with the measurements and you noticed no irregular pressure readings pre-rebuild, it's fine. |

Dry gear to gear you will get some noise. Naturally the oil acts as a cushion and cuts down the friction. If the play is not excessive and a wear pattern is not irregular it probably is ok. However Peter GT4, Ed Gualt or one of the guys who have done overhauls could tell you better. BRGDS, |

I have the front case cover off my GT4, all the bearings and the pulley shafts are off. I disassembled the oil pump, cleaned the components, measured them and put them back. Everything seemed alright. I turned the pump by hand and there was a little play in the gears and it made a little noise. For those who have disassembled the oil pump and put it back, does yours make a slight bit of noise when you turn it by hand. I pumped some oil into the housing and turned it by hand. The noise was less. Is this pretty normal? |
