Just ordered the T-stat from Sodacoms per the part numbers you posted Bob and will research the crossover with a Fiat type for future reference when I get down to the parts store. A couple of days by ground shipping.
Sodacoms didn't even ask for the pound of flesh to cover the stocking charge.
Thanks for the input, I'll try to return the favor when I come up with some good info,
DJ

Both the original Ferrari 'stat and the Wahler are marked 75 degrees. The info on the other temperature available is around 1000 miles from where I am right now, and much that it'd be a fun drive to go and get it, sorry, not possible. Can't even remember for certain but I think it was higher - I could possibly give someone a call some time next week but to actually go and look in the data book again will have to wait til I'm in London next.

Don't want to cut Ferrari's profit margins or anything but the 308 thermostat is the same as the Fiat X 1/9. You can get those for less than 5. From memory it doesn't come with the O-ring. That thermostat is available in 2 temperatures, one of which is the same as the 308. Although identical, be aware of the quality you are buying as, even for Fiat, they appear to come from different suppliers. Many are made in Germany. Depending on the manufacturer, there may be small visual differences but no functional differences. I have an original Ferrari one out of the car and a Wahler (West German one) also out of the car. I would post pictures of them but my digital camera has gone surreal on me so unless you want artistic impressions of thermostats, sorry no pics today.

Bob, Thanks, a great help, I'm really itching to close everything up and start on the external cosmetics and interior restoration.

I found the part number for the Thermostat but I don't know what the part numbers are for the Gasket and 'O' Ring . Will they pick the gasket and 'O' ring if I ask for them without a number?

Mark, thnks for the tip. I was starting to look sideways at my 240 with the same idea in mind.

JRVall, Now that you put the situation in that light I feel so much better. The truck rides and plane rides I wonder though, not like I was trying to pick up a door for a 250 GTO or anything.
Lets see,
1 four dollar thermostat and gasket
1 trans continental flight
1 trans Atlantic flight
1 trucking fee
1 stock in charge
1 stock out charge
Duty Tax
Sales Tax
Repackaging fee
Complimentary phone call
81.00
YUP! You're right! Now if I can just find one.........................................

>>>2) all those truck rides and plane rides the part takes before it gets to the USA add up.<<<

But JRV, do they really HAVE to fly up-front in first class? :-)

>>.4. Would it be quicker and cheaper to mine the materials and make the parts myself? <<

Sure seems like it sometimes...but don't forget 2 things...

1) the dealers are DOING YOU A FAVOR by even answering the phone for less than $100K...and

2) all those truck rides and plane rides the part takes before it gets to the USA add up.

That said..I think the last 328 (only ones availible, I'm told) thermostat I bought was $125.

During my winter maintenance I decided to replace the thermostat as it appears to have been untouched for a long while. Better now with the hatch and aircleaner off than this summer on my way to a fun time. I've inquired at two dealers with replys that it will take at least two weeks or more (IF they can get one). Prices were T-stat 68.00, Gasket 4.90, 'O' ring 9.00+.
1. Are they really that hard to get?
2. Who can I go to for realistic prices?
3. Part numbers?
4. Would it be quicker and cheaper to mine the materials and make the parts myself?
Thanks in advance for all of the great help, DJ
