Hi On 308GT4, no need to remove the alternator. Just the RH gas tank. |

Im going to have the right fuel tank out anyhow because I am replacing the AC lines. So.... removing the alternator wouldnt take any time and while there I may yank the header. If I do decide to remove the header, I will cut the heat shield off then send it out for coating. |

I heard that is also lowered engine compartment temps. |

To remove the front header you would have to remove the right fuel tank and alternator. Mine has no shields and have had no negative side effects. Ive heard the header wrap can make the metal brittle and crack so I would avoid that and coat them for the look. With the shields removed, the rear header comes out in about 10 minutes. |

Terry did you remove the front header (cockpit side) with the motor in the car? If so what was the procedure to do this? I would also suggest that you jet coat the headers if you leave off the heat shields. This keeps some of the heat in the headers and it looks cool. |

Bob Campen where are you? If I remember correctly he did this. I might be wrong. |

I removed mine because they were dented and all the insulation had shaken to the bottom. Then I cut off and welded shut the tube holes and double wrapped them with header wrap and sprayed them silver with high temp paint. I've run it that way for 2 years and it's been fine. |

I am removing my 308 headers for some work. The CO tubes are screwed up and its leaking exhaust making tuning impossible. It would appear that removing the heat shielding would make removing the headers much easier. It would also allow me to make sure the exhaust leaks are not due to a crack in a header inside the heat shielding. Anyone removed the aluminum heat shielding? Does it cause crazy hot temps in the engine bay? Is it a bad idea? Does it make removal of the headers that much easier? Anyone have any photos of what the engine looks like without the heat shields? I assume I would need to make a heat shield for the alternator but other than that it seems things should be fine. All opinions are appreciated... Terry |
