>>#1 has the main vacuum for the brake boster and the vacuum readings are rapid pulsing at between 5"-15". << Disconect the Booster line and plug & check again...sounds like the one way valve may be shot.

I got the following sync. meter measurements. Standing at the back of the car looking at the Front left carb. #1 , front right #2 , back left #3 and back right #4. Readings were (7,7) , (3.5,3.5) , (4,4) and (5,5) . All idle settings out about 4-4 1/2 turns so I am going to try to sync. to #3 . Funny though is that #1 has the main vacuum for the brake boster and the vacuum readings are rapid pulsing at between 5"-15". |

I followed JRV's carb tune procedure and I was amazed that they actually vary to some degree. It took a couple of days to do with the colortune's but I had 5 on 6 cyl and a 4 3/4 on one and a tick over 5 on the other. Once they are sync'd |

Im uncomfortable with six turns because I dont want the screws to fall out and less likely to suck air past them if they are in further then they are now. |

Unless your working with all new parts I'm not sure # of turns is relivant. Way to many places for air to leak and to many years for the jets to have been monkeyed with to apply that type of general rule. On the sychonmeter I usually get it around 4 or 5. To problematic with the old tubes to rely on vacum reading imo. If you don't have access to a Exhaust Gas Analyzer use a Color Tune to determine correct mixture setting at each cylinder. |

My screws are set a 6 turns out, yes its too much but it runs very well at that setting. I have to change my idle jets to a .6 perhaps and then maybe 3 turns would be about right. No vacuum readings. |

Carb folks do you know your idle air mixture screws number of turns. Also what is your vacuum readings? |

I just started to see what the adjustments on my webers are and discovered that the idle screws were turned out 4 turns from the seat.I went to all of the idle srews and they all were about 4 turns out. So I went back through the set up process which is 2 turns out from stop , throttle adj. screws 1/2 turn in after contact and started it up. Runs rich and when I leaned out the idle screws it ran better. Started the bi-pass screws adj. process using the air gage and got the carbs sync'ed. Still runs good but I question the Haynes manual initial set-up if you need to lean it out so much. Any one out there run into this? |
