Burned plactic piece...yep. Melted onto wire...yep. But, the piece is an easy replacement. Strip wire and apply new fitting. Done. Still need a tune up and to fix the outside lock and window rollup/down problem. Still need an 8.0 x 16" magnesium cromodora wheel to replace the 7.0 on the rear. Then, car will be just like brand new, just in time to remove the targa and begin spring. |

Now it's time to fix the fuse problem. Mine did the same thing a couple of years ago. Same problem, same fix. |

Glad to hear you found the culprit.....yep, the fuel pump fuse / connection on the 308's can get mighty hot....I've even seen them partially melt the plastic fuse cover! |

Thanks to everyone who offered solutions to the start problem I was having with my '85 308 GTSi QV. Guys, we overthought the problem a bit. The way I explained it, it was easy to blame a fuel problem. Crank, crank, crank...nothing (especially when warm). We thought fuel accumulator, check valve, cold start valve, meter valve, etc.... But when I checked on these things nothing added up. Then I checked the fuel pump fuse. Of course the fuse was fine, because the car would start some of the time. But I noticed some burned plastic around the connection. When I jiggled the wire, I heard the fuel pump go on and off. Problem Solved!!! So glad the car didn't have to be torn apart to find out the tip of a wire was the problem. |

Sometimes I have to wrestle with my 1985 308 GTSi qv to get it started. It cranks for a while, then fires. This is much more frequent after I have been driving it and then let it rest for a brief period of time. Today, however, crank, crank, crank...nothing. It had been only about 2 minutes since I shut it off. I thought it was flooded, so I let it sit. It seemed like it wanted to start, so I let it rest some more. After about 2 hours of cranking and resting, there was no hope. When I pulled the plugs, they weren't wet. They were filled with carbon, so I brushed them, but it didn't help. The car has backfired three or four times in the recent past, so that may have fouled some plugs. This ever happen to anyone? There a trick to fixing it? Does it have to go to the shop? It was humbling having my 308 towed on a flatbed 45 miles back home. Last thing, it was about 70 degrees today, if that helps your diagnosis. |
