One of my coils failed last november. Possibly related to weird alternator gremlins. In any case, both are replaced with new Bosch parts (if I recall correctly). Let me know if you need part numbers, etc. I've got good spark now, NGK BP5ES plugs gapped at 0.27. Stock ignition.

Likewise, I am in the process of getting my GTS ready for the season, that is why I drove the 240. I am going to try and have it ready for the lunch in LaConner on April 19th. It's only 1/2 hour from my house. Are you going to go?
Feel free to E me at home. DJ

The tall guy with Lem Chareston, we were introduced I think. I drove the yellow 240 with effects. Great show!

Yes Peter, Just one. I don't worry about radio in the car because I am usually listening to the engine, better music. It's a crappy Blaupunkt anyway.
Did I see you at Shirley's warehouse a few weeks ago?
Thanks for the info, DJ

i run accell #8140 coils.
with NGK#5 non-platinum gapped at .035.
You do not have to change the plugs to run the coils.
They fit in perfect.
I painted them black first then installed them.

DJ, I think you're talking about the noise-suppresor (only one of them, correct?). If its broken, nothing disasterous will happen, except maybe some static through the radio...

Matt, I had success replacing them with ordinary coils obtained from an auto parts store. You'll have to determine whether you'll need to continue to use the ballast resistors with the new coils. The primary circuit should be 1 - 1.5 ohms (touching the two little screw connectors on top of the coil). The secondary circuit should be above 10000 ohms (negative screw connector on top, to the coil wire connector). The Magnetti ballast resistor should be 1.5 - 2 ohms.

Hans,

Are you using xr-700's? If you are I think I have two optical pick-up sensors laying around and they are not used. Do you want them? E-mail me your address. I have no use for them.

My '75 was changed to Crane electronic ignition a few decades ago, but they kept the original coils. So far, no problem!

I just broke the little black capacitor off the side of the resistor underneath the forward coil. At least I think it's a capacitor. Anybody know what it's for and is it absolutely necesary to run?
Thanks again, DJ

are we talking about the 2 ignition coils. They do get weak. I dont know that there is a specific time for them but i changed mine with accells because they were so cheap and they are a little hotter and it allows for a hotter plug at a wider gap. Can give part numbers if you are interested.
