Hi everyone,

This weekend, when a screwdriver in my hand after a run, I checked the lights worked allright. Anyway after that detailed explanation Ernie has posted I think it will be better to check it anyway before it doesn't work in my TUV inspection.

Thanks again you all. Julio. Soon.

Ernie,

Just to add to your excellent post,

Pull off the plug on the switch and jumper the two connections on the socket on the loom to make sure that the circuit is OK - If you jumper the socket and the reverse lights still do not come on, there is a possible problem with wiring/fuses. (Remember to have the ignition on!!)

Paul

Before you replace the switch try adjusting it. Your problem could be that the button on the switch isn't being pressed in enough to make contact so that the reverse lights come on. To test the switch and adust it you need to get to the switch. To get to it you have to remove the shifter gate. There are two screws that hold it down. After you take the screws out, lift the shift gate up along with the cover that is under it. Look on the front part of the shift box inside the center console and you will see the switch. Check to make sure it is plugged in properly. If it is then have someone stand at the back of the car to see if the reverse lights come on when you press the button, inside the shift box. If the light comes on then you need to adjust to switch, if not then you know the switch is bad. To adjust it there is a nut on the threads that can be ajusted back and forth. Make the adjustment so that the switch moves into the shift box a little bit more, or until you get the proper amount of contact. Hope this helps.

Craig,

It could be your shifter boot has come loose and worked it's way down and is pressing the button.

I watched some footage of me doing a short sprint against a 996 turbo(on a track), it seemed that my reverse lights come on everytime I redline/change gear??

Julio,
It might be the reverse sender switch. Its activated when the gearlevel is put into the reverse position. Not sure where it would be located, maybe under the gearlever chrome plate.

You might have a bad earth wire to the rear cluster light panel.

Are the bulbs dead.
I hope this helps

Have had a similar problem. I just replaced the switch at the gear stick. Good luck.

Hello guys,

I have notice my reversing lights are not working anymore. The fuse is ok as indicator lights work properly, and it is the same fuse.

Could it be just the captor? a worn clutch? anything else?

Any advice about how to solve it by myself or how much money I have to get out of my wallet will be welcome?

by the way, it's a 90 eu model.

Soon Julio
