Kelly My experience. Car weight on wheels. Put fingers on threads on top of tire, palms on side, puch and pull hard. Wiggle = loose wheel bearings. Rotate steering all the way to the right. Grab tie rod end. Up and down movement indicates worn bushings in the rack. Needs re-building. Shimmy under braking = rotors. Can try a light skim, otherwise replace (I did both). HTH Philip |

The right rotors is a little warped but not enough to do anything about now. Update Tire movement. Top to bottom, hand on top and one on bottom. It does move and I would think that is the ball joints. Moving the tire sided to side, you make the steeering wheel move, but there alot more movement than it should be. I'm going to jack it up this weekend and give yawl an up date. Thanks Kelly Love the mud thing, my Cousin Vinny. |

JRV is right. Mine were shot back in 98 and I replaced them. No big deal. I can't say how bad the tie rods made the car on the track because on that same track day, my rotors were warped and I had a lot of shake on hard braking anyway. I would go back to that same tire shop and check the tie rods specifically.

The 'rack to tie rod bushings' being worn causing front end shimmy is very common on 308's. |

Are you braking hard into the turns when you notice it or is it simply when you turn in hard at a high speed without touching the brake? |

I got a 1980 308, at the last track day and driveing hard in turns I've noticed a shimmy in the front end. I took it to a tire ship thinking it was the front tires out of balance, it was not balancing but the front end has a alott of play in it. I know it needs new bushings all around. But do you thing it is the bushing on the steering rack? In a straight line the car runs fine, is it still Is it OK to drive?? Any advise is always appreciated. Kelly |
