My 308 made the same noise during warm up. once up to running temp. it stopped. I recently found out that the a/c pump clutch was the source, now looking to fix/souce parts.

It sounds like a broken belt flapping on the side of the engine, or like a very large card in a bike spoke.

On 308 it's common with a "clattering" sound from the alternator belt. Sounds almost like valvetrain noise. You can verify the source of the noise by applying "belt dressing" on the alternator belt.

I have a Cold Start Accessory Belt Banging Noise in my 328. Two quite reputable mechanics told me that this happens when the annodizing on the pulleys wear off. They say that this is more common on a 456. Have any other 308/328 folks had this problem. It could be real embarassing to start up the car with all of that clatter. The mechanics say they would do nothing. Do all 456's sound like crap when they start-up cold?
