Chris: That's common with all brands of the clear film when you have substantial debris impacts. The film actually keeps the "broken paint" in place, but once removed, off comes the paint with the film.

I'm not sure what brand it was, but I recently removed one of these clear films from the front bumper cover of a Ruf Porsche 996 which had been driven very fast on and off the track. I noticed that the paint came off in the areas where some larger rocks had impacted the surface.

I'm not sure whether the paint was bad to begin with, the speeds at which the rock impacts occurred were too high for the film to work properly, or the rocks were just too big, but the paint was damaged nonetheless. The damage was not evident until the film was removed.

That said, there were no traces of smaller nicks and scratches from sand and bugs.

You might also try www.invinca-shield.com

Their 550 kits are at
http://www.invinca-shield.com/asp/genkit.asp?kit=1314

They're not only much less expensive than www.stongard.com, but use the exact same 3M material and right now if you check their home page they have a code for an additional 20% off.

Try www.stongard.com for home page or http://www.stongard.com/sgcontent/shop.asp?branch=923 for the 550 kits.

I am having it installed in 2 weeks on my 348 Spider. This product was recommended by many people here on F-Chat. A search should show several threads. A "black" color is the only one that may show a slight line when applied properly. Red and other colors almost invisible.

Everyone says it is great stuff - take a look at the headlight / fog light protection also.

Does anyone have the website for the company that sells the transparent appliques in kits for 550s and others? Anyone know if there are any alternative manufacturers? Long Island roads are going to be a sandstorm this Spring! Thanks
