Steve, So, you know this fuse box well....yes, that #2 on the left bank of fuses. The owners manual says it's revese lights (they work) seat belt circuit (they work), exhaust high temp (not sure), and electrovalves (I think they are ok as well). The fuse box cover says instrument lights and something else. I wil try the speedometer sender at the gear box first thing in the morning and post back here. I will check the ground connections. By the way, I am only getting 10.9 volts at the terminals on both headlights. Thanks Steve & Dr C! |

I bet it's the ground also. Easy fix. |

Barney -- 1) Do you mean the 2nd fuse from the left in the left fuse box (i.e., fuse #2 as numbered in the OM)? If so, I believe the green (V) wire(s) not only goes to the dash to run all the instruments, but also goes to the speedometer sender itself (but I'll double-check that) -- you might try unplugging the speedometer sender at the gearbox just as an (easy) experiment. 2) Each headlight has it's own ground connection directly to the chassis near the headlight itself. If you've verified the +12V directly at the headlight plug (and since you've tried a new bulb), check the ground connection -- just a thought... |

2 problems I could use some help on. 1)I am trying to locate what appears to be a dead short. When I turn the key on (before the car starts) the fuse for the dash blows immediately. I have isolated the line (a green wire) that is the source coming off the fuse block. Leaving it disconnected everything seems OK except the speedometer. I put an ohm meter on the line (disconnected green wire) to ground and get 0 resistance. Checked at the speedometer and there doesnt seem to be a problem there. Any ideas? 2) I believe unrelated to the fuse problem, one headlight is VERY dim (barely an orange glow) while the other is OK. I replaced the bulb, same problem. Voltage to RH & LH lights from box are the same. High beam same situation. Any ideas? Thanks. |
