Rob and Jeff, regarding my comment on not using any anti-squeak compound on the back of new pads for 348/355 brakes: that was what I was told by two different Ferrari mechanics. Their comment was, essentially, for a fixed caliper system, it's not necessary, creates a mess, and makes it difficult to change pads. Dunno how true that is (and apparently not that important, given the use of such compounds by you two on a regular basis), but, as I always say, since I have the mechanical aptitude of an eggplant, I tend to follow instructions from people I trust.... vty, --Dennis |

Rob, Too bad you're not here in Memphis. The guys here who don't turn their own wrenches would love to have somebody that does your type work. My brakes work great and NO MORE DUST! Thanks for the clarity. |

Jeff, I'm pulling your leg!! Yes, different environments, different focus. I do it all the time on race cars, owners of road cars only want to do the maintenance when necessary, I'd do the same if you brought your car to me, too. Careful, long lasting repair. I love hearing owners tell their maintenance / improvement stories. BTW, Dennis, I don't see any reason not to use anti-vibration anything. I've done it, I'll do it again, all with no problems. Why do you think you were told not to?? |

Ah no, I have a 348. I used the spray on type of anti vibration compound. Brakes seem to be silent and tight. Why not use it? Educate me please!

1. I've been told by more than one source that one should NEVER use any anti-vibration/squeak spray on the back of new pads when used with the Brembo 348/355 calipers. Jeff has a 308, so it may be different, but don't use it with your 348/355. 2. Julio, there are LOTS of different brake pads available at different prices, nearly all of which are cheaper than OEM pads from a dealer. I use Performance Friction carbon metallic (PFC-97) pads, they were around $97 a set, for mixed street/track use. If you're only driving on the street, I wouldn't worry too much about pad performance; choose on the basis of price, longevity, noise and dusting. And don't forget to bed in the new pads (not all new pads require this, but most do). vty, --Dennis |

Yes Rob, Three hours. This was not a track day "combat" change. I did all the small niceties, that I always do. I cleaned all the surrounding areas, and scrubbed the calipers with a tooth brush and brake parts cleaner. Of course I also treated the back sides of the pads with an anti-vibration spray to make sure there were no squeeks. I flushed the fluid too. All in three hours. I thought it was quick. Maybe not. But I sure did enjoy it. Ah yes, peaceful time in my garage! J |

EBC Green Stuff brake pads are now available for the 348,355,328,456,550,360. These pads are supposed to be really good. Their big claim is excellent braking performace with little or no dust. |

Three hours? I did 348 Challenge brake pad changes during qualifying at Montreal in 8 minutes (two guys). That's the photo in my profile. My driver's would waste a set of racing pads in 30 minutes at Montreal. (348 Challenge rules stipulated stock brake rotors and calipers.)

My pads on my 348 squeeked like crazy! I couldn't take it anymore, so I replaced them with a full set of greenstuff kevlar pads. They were $96/set. These are the easiest pads I've ever changed. It was a total snap. I was done in 3 hours! No squeaks, very little dust and great stopping power. Bought them from tire rack. |

I can tell you that the stock pads A) cost a lot, B) will fade at the track (ask me how I know), C) have a fairly small amount of dust for a performance pad. I can also tell you that the Ferrodo DS2500 pads A) have better bite (u=0.61 versus u=0.44), B) do not fade at the track, C) are streetable down here in texas, D) leave brake dust like there is no tomorrow, and E) don't cost all that much. (But at least you get to wash an unbent car). These pads are higher temp than the DS2000 and more streetable than the DS3000 race pads. |

There are a lot of threads on this......same question I asked..........if you check www.tirerack.com, then they have 2 or 3 different pads that will work for you.......I also have a 348.....I don't know all the technical stuff, but basically the different pads all work, some people said that the brake dust was worse with some, and some people said some squeeked more......my OEM squeek like crazy, so the aftermarkets worked out fine for me......I got mine from the tire rack and was very happy. |

Julio, look for a past thread on 348 brake pads - alternate source. There are alternate makes, but you will need to choose which composite you want. Normal PAGIDs used by Porsche retail at about 35GPB in the UK |

I have to replace my pads and my dealer ask me around 1000& for the OEM galfer3318. I have thought about ferodo, just 400$. In www.italiancarparts.com site there is some pads, don't know which made/composite to 90& p/axle, 180$ total. Could anyone tell me pros & cons of not using OEM pads? Or, where can I found the OEM for a fair price? Are the ones in www.italiancarparts.com reliable?,(they seems really cheap) Thank you all. Soon. |
