Hi Patrick...my original plan has changed a bit. I bought new belts from JC Whitney (no laughs please) to do this change. Unfortunately the original receiver (female) will not work with these new belts. So I've mounted the cheap looking one that came with the belts. My original plan was to mount the retractor at the door sill stock location, with a swivel type of triangular loop mounted where the little motor-mouse/clasp was, and then go back downward to the anchor point below the rear window. I had it together and it worked, but looked kinda slip-shod. I then got to thinking...why not just cut and restitch the belt so that the swivel at the old motor-mouse location is the second anchor point? This eliminates the complication of running the belt down through the original leather covered side panel. (Seems almost too simple doesn't it?) Last night I cut the belts as needed, sewed them up to the triangular swivels, and will try and get my lazy butt in gear to install them tonight. The only two drawbacks I see and that the upper anchor point may look kinda "funny" to those that "know". And the retractor at the door sill must be angled forward to allow the belt to exit the leather covered storage tray pieces, like the original lap belt used to. This angle kinda makes the belt, when not in use, hang it bit wierd. This is the cheapest way I know to do this, but certainly not the best. I will post a pic either tonight or tomorrow. As I said before, a fellow chat member has done a "factory" conversion to euro style belts, and if anyone is interested I will try and put you in touch with him. |

Thanks Jeff. My car isn't going into a concours event anytime soon (as in never), I'm more interested in your setup. Are you using the stock lap belt receptacle or just the attachment point for the replacement belt? Will your belts be a fixed length or have the centrifugal stop mechanism? Thanks for your pioneering on this! |

you can also try matt jones at re-originals here in houston. he had some a while back, and knowing matt, he probabley can get you some if he doesn't have it anymore. what is the difference between the 512tr and the testarossa weatherstripping? |

Hello Patrick...the seatbelt change over is coming along. I have the passenger's side done, but all the interior panels are still removed. My seat belt idea won't be factory perfect, but there is no carving up of the panels or upholstery work...so far that is. The jury is still out till I install everything. But I think it's gonna work okay. It has been quite labor intensive with lots of trial and error fitments since there is no guide or instructions on how to convert over. The new belt retractor is in the stock doorsill position with the belt running upward through a swivel-loop and then down to an anchor point below the side-rear window. Had to make a bracket that positions the swivel-loop where the "mouse" used to be. Like I said...it won't be factory perfect. I'll post pics probably by this weekend. A fellow f-chat member has done a couple of conversions to the euro-style belts with great success. This of course requires the correct parts. I would have gone this route but my budget doesn't allow it. If your interested in this conversion I will try and put you in touch with him, just let me know. |

The original fuzzy weatherstrip is NLA. Ferrari has superceded the part number to the weatherstrip for the 512TR. P/n 63149500 same for R or L side. I have a pair in stock @ $134.73 each list price. |

This has been the only part I have had trouble finding, of all the stuff I've bought for this car, altho I hear the fuse panels are HTF as well. -Ben

Jeff, How is your seatbelt project coming? I'm looking forward to your final report (I've been thinking of doing that conversion for several years now) Pat |

Thank You Ben for the information. I've tried looking at photos to see where the joint is located. For making so many TRs you would think that spare parts would not be a problem. But I my experiences have been that parts are very difficult to come by for these cars. |

I have, from a dealer, from memory about $300 for the pair. They are VERY hard to find, maybe we can look forward to Ferrari UK carrying these parts soon. Some have a top rear "corner" precut (and re-seamed), and then they will need to be cut to length (which is harder than it looks - there is a metal strip in the rubber). I believe the proper seam should be along the lower door edge towards the front of the car. -Ben |

Has anyone out there purchased the weather strip that goes around the TR's doors? It has the round-ish rubber seal plus the felt covered welt? My car needs both replaced. What's a rough cost estimate? Thanks in advance. Jeff |
