Thanks guys. Yes the light does go on instantly and remains on. -I'll try the suggestions today, and let you know what I've found. -Bill |

Bill S. -- If the 1/6 warning light stays on immediately after cold start-up then there's something wacky in the 1/6 warning light electronics, as regardless of whether your car is running properly or not (which may be a separate issue), it would still take some finite time for the 1/6 thermocouple in the exhaust stream to heat up to the "turn-on-the-light temp" of something like 1600~1700 deg F. The first thing to try is cleaning the various connectors at the warning light ECUs (RH side of the engine bay behind the small inspection plate -- easily found by following the braided wires from the thermocouples) -- if no improvement then warning light ECU-ectomy (I've replaced both in my '91). My impression is that the AC on TRs is "not too bad" if all is working well. Have a look at the sight glass on the dryer/filter when in operation (at ~2000 RPM) -- should be an all "liquid" flow -- "If, however, bubbles appear this means that the freon is not completely liquid and the reason for this must be ascertained." Greetings everyone. I just received my 1st Ferrari, an 86 Testarossa. Actually, I've never seen any car as beautiful, the body looks like it rolled off the showroom, but the engine might be another matter. I've wrenched a lot, but never a Ferrari, so here goes. First, that red light; Slow down cyl 1-6 stays on. Just looking at the car when it starts makes me think that it's running rich. White smoke. Or maybe a cat is plugged. How do I go about w/diagonsis on this engine? Will a standard induction timing light work? Can the timing belts be checked for time without dropping the engine? And is the AC weak on other TRs, or is that something I need to work on as well? Oh well, I'll stop using bandwidth. -Thanks for your time. -g |
